99-Am.Star,
After all these years, I never knew that 1192cc detail!
I purchased the bug so that I had something to drive back and forth to the Porsche dealer, local wrecking yards, and private enthusiasts with spare parts for sale as I was restoring a 356SC, with my dad in 1983.
I was 16 years old at the time, and ended up collecting way too many tickets with the beautiful Guards Red 356SC once it was restored.
I quickly sold it and restored the old 1965 bug into what was called a "Cal-bug" during the mid-80's. Dechromed, centerline wheels, 1-piece front windows, 1800cc custom built engine with dual Weber carbs, and a roller bearing main crank, roll cage installed, 4-point seatbelts, back seat removed and replaced with a light weight storage box, (mainly for big stereo speakers). Then, off to my local Orange County Raceway in Irvine, CA for bracket racing on the weekends! I could legally race, and not get any more tickets!
