when I did a visual inspection I could not see anything. when the exhaust was cold I felt around the pipes until I found the hole- it was under a heat shield that wrapped around the pipe like a sock. it was the pipe that came out of the exhaust brake and made turn to go down to the muffler. I would look for rusted areas and start there. the noise I heard was just a much louder engine sound coming in the interior and louder on the exterior. hope this helps -
