"I have the portable Progressive 50 amp surge protector. The first time I used it three weeks ago it worked fine. We were just in MI and when I plugged it in I waited for it to read the circuit to give me the all clear. I then plugged in the coach and nothing. I unpluged the SP and just plugged in the coach to the shore power and I had full power. I chalked it up to where we were staying. On the way home we stayed at an RV park in WV and the same thing happened. It is brand new so if it is...

The RV refrigerator does not work like a house refrigerator. Yes, they both cool and freeze food, but their methods of operation are not the same. Here's one good example:

I had a customer call me one afternoon, insisting that his refrigerator was defrosting and wanted me to fix it. When I arrived at his RV, he showed me the water dripping from the fins. I proceeded to carefully make all of my usual checks on the refrigerator. Afterwards, I explained that his refrigerator was within...

© “Why is having a standard for upper and lower voltage levels so important?”

Let’s look at Minimum Voltage.

Explaining this requires a little different analogy than the one we used for Maximum Voltage. For this example, we will again equate it to something we all understand -- a temperate zone. Most of us like to live in a temperate zone -- a comfortable climate of 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. When the outside temperature is above 80 degrees, many of us will start looking...

© “Why is having a standard for upper and lower voltage levels so important?”

Let’s look at Maximum Voltage.

To do so we’re going to equate it to something we all understand -- blood pressure. Looking at just the upper number, normal blood pressure is considered to be between 90 and 120. If the upper number is a little higher than normal (120-139), we can usually control it with diet (i.e. less salt). If the upper number is much higher than normal (140-159), we get a...

© Are you checking your currently available voltage level before turning on additional equipment? Do you need to???? YES!!!!

Here’s WHY:

The National Electrical Manufacturer’s Association (NEMA) has established the voltage Design Spec for electronic/electrical equipment sold in this country to be:

Maximum voltage - - 132 volts
Minimum voltage - - 104 volts

Here’s how they came up with those numbers:

Our optimal voltage standard...
