BTW, my speed limiter is called a Foot. :D Sorry, couldn't resist, although my 5 Star programmer will let me change a the speed limiter, if there was one, on my F53.

My limiter is set at exactly 80 MPH.
http://www.irv2.com/attachments/phot...e4d631e86c.jpg That's fast enough for my MH, If I feel comfortable going 80 ( and that's not often, gotta be extraordinary great conditions), my only concern is my tires. If I had a CL C with the Duramax, I would also want it to be capable of going faster than 75. So many people who have RV are so judgemental, they all know how fast they feel comfortable driving, (99% 62 or 63MPH) and by gawd we all better do that too:D. It's obvious we're not a bunch of young people around here; and I believe most are from back east where the roads are more crowded and lower speed limits. |
If I were towing I would not go that fast and with the suspension mods on the unit and good tires that speed is not unreasonable in open road situations.
I had not asked for unlimited speed just a tad higher top pass without playing cat and mouse. Thanks for the replies and I understand those who wish to not travel at that pace at all. |

Thanks, it has a Banks Ottotune or something like that, not the six gun.
May have to change up a few things. My 03 GMC D/A K3500 CC Longbed Dually has the Edge with Attitude set up with AFE Magnum intake and 5" exhaust. I never get on it in first gear as it will light the tires without hesitation and pull hard all the way past 100mph. With Bilsteins and Firestone air bags it is the perfect tow rig and it is lonely right now. |
Your tires maybe rated at 75 mph but doing 85 mpg should warm up tires a good 15 to 20 extra air pounds.
Hope you have good control at 85 when tires blow and your riding on your rims. |

And have an upgraded suspension system. I have had several tires go at 75mph while towing, mostly in Arizona/Utah and high ambient temps over 100 degrees. The off road crowd (we are) usually carry two spares for a trailer so as to not have to stop for repairs during the trip to the destination. Max49 I would agree with you, seems most here do not travel far at a time or do not see much open road between destinations day to day. IF I have a week of vacation to go to a riding destination that is between 750-1200 miles away I am not going to use my days in transit going 55-65mph. Quite by accident we drove home from Henry Lake, just outside of West Yellowstone to Portland Oregon and dawdled along the way, 750 miles or so. The KOA in Meridian ID did not have a pull-through and we did not like the other places on the way home so ended up driving though. Admittedly I do not like driving at night as I want to watch for tire smoke and such but he closer we got to home the slower I needed to drive anyway. To each their own, one time my wife and I were having breakfast on a trip and the old folks next to us were discussing their trip...she said "the kids are going to be at the lake today , how can they drive more than 200 miles in a day?" I about blew coffee through my nose in laughter but kept quite as my wife smirked. On our last trip of 7000 miles several were 600 plus days to get us across the long stretches going coast to coast. |

Eeeek... we got a newbie wondering where if there was a programmer that would bump the topend on his duramax...
He didn't ask if any of us thought it was safe for him to exceed 75 in his rig once in a while... The speed limit on most rural highways in this land is 70, many are 75, some are faster. And most of you are preaching the old "55 to 60" adage. 'round here, driving 60 is a good way to become a hood ornament on a kenworth. The guy must think we're all nuts. |
Well here is a Father/Son picture.
http://www.irv2.com/attachments/phot...4027ea46a7.jpg The little one flies through the air with the greatest of ease. Some of the fastest 45mph I have driven has been in it. A bit over 60 it will go but for these things it is a slow poke. A sometime over 75 on open road past a t*rd can't be too much to ask. As far as crazy, insane...does that include fun too? Actually I have been amused at the response and commentary. I just turned 59 in October and am not ready for the rocking chair but retirement would be good. I am not thin skinned and have a few off-road sites that get a bit on the rollicking side too. |
Folks, you've gotten WAY :offtopic: & opinions regarding speed are not what this member requested.
Please keep posts centered on helping the OP with his question. Thank you. Lori- |
