Family Finances... who handles them? and why?

Just wondering the statistics for who handles the family finances / bill paying and why (if there is any specific reason).

The wife is better at operational expenses and I am better at long term investments.

My wife handles all of the finances. I dutifully direct deposit my pay and she gives me my weekly stipend of $60.00 and my gas money comes out of that!
My needs are simple so it's not like I feel like I am denied things that I covet. I don't. I keep a lid on my impulses. ( except when it came to jumping into debt to buy this MH! But that's another story) :) She is a good woman who keeps our family's well being at the forefront. That means a lot to me. I don't have to be this income earning control freak micro managing all of the expenses because it's going out the window faster that we ( I forgot to mention that she works too) can earn it.
When two people are on the same page when it comes to the family's finances it can make all the difference in the world between a peaceful relationship and one where constant fighting over money consumes them. IMHO

I do everything financial for us. DW keeps the "house" in order and well stocked but I'm the one who watches over where we are and where we're going financially. We've found that doing it this way plays to both of our strengths.

Have seen to many cases Mrs can't handle money if husband always did it. So she does it all. But I do keep an eye on things as she dosn't always see problems. Still takes two to tango

I do. My first wife was an accountant and she kept all the books. I trusted her completely with the money. In my case that trust was misplaced and in the end we were divorced. She had abused my trust with the finances, and I ended up with nothing but debt. I made a promise to myself that it would never happen that way again, and as of today, I have kept that promise.

I am used to taking care of the budget, paying bills & balancing the checkbook but just today (after trying to balance the checkbook) I told hubby that maybe he should take it over. He's not giving me receipts to deduct from the checkbook which means I don't find out to deduct them until I balance it through the bank website. Well I got tired of complaining about it & decided to give him a chance at it.

Seems like I should feel that a weight has lifted from my shoulders but all I'm focused on is that impending doom music I hear.

I do all of it. My strengths are there, and also my interest is there. I love finance, bookkeeping, budgets, and money. I'm a detail person, and you need to pay attention to the details. DH has many, many other strengths I don't have, so he takes care of those depts.

My dear dw does , she works full time and during tax season works for H & R Block

She is very good at this . I hated paying bills , but not spending money ...lol

I take care of everything. My wife just depends on me to tell her if and when I need help. She does so many other things, we compliment each other.

X2, sounds just like the situation I experienced with my first wife. Never again, I take care of all the finances with the present marriage. :thumb:

I don't care as long as the bills get paid. My wife does the billing/documentation for loaded grain ships headed overseas. Now if she'd just remember to pay our bills on time!
Seems like she can't remember to pay the Civic payment on time. Guess we need to write a check and pay it off, got too much money in the two checking accounts anyway.
