regarding luan paneling

Many of our motor coaches are built using Fiberglass or Filon sheeting for exterior walls and roofs, glued to sheets of Luan wood paneling. Great. Until there's a little bit of a water leak somewhere. Then the Luan rots, the glue holding all the sheets together lets go, and then there are unsightly delamination bubbles.

Question. Are there any motor coaches that do not use Luan wood in the construction? Is this what differentiates the buses like Prevost from our RV motor coaches?

Many manufacturers have gone away from luan to Azdel (composite). This gets rid of the rot problem. Not all have yet though. Winnebago for example is a holdout.

As far as I know, even the high end coaches where built with Luan until recently..

Wasn't always that way. Travco for one never used anything but fiberglass in the ceilings/walls. Built more like a boat? There were a few others in that day as well. Superior was all steel for instance.... Barth?

I think of luan as planed obsolescence?
