Location of battery boost relay--'05 38 TSP
I am isolating source of battery cranking problem. After a few days, a week or less batteries crank slow.

I have had batteries tested, results "good"--Interstate 31 MHD.
When the batteries cranked slow last week I toggled, holding down, the battery assist and did not hear any difference in cranking speed. It took 5 attempts before starting.

Last week I installed an Ultra TRIK-L-START and a Flow-Rite Watering System.

After driving the coach the batteries crank just fine.

I am wondering if the relay for the battery assist is working and wanting to know the location on this Freightliner chassis.

Assistance or added ideas are appreciated in advance.

That switch is a momentary switch that only operates as you hold down the rocker. That's why it took some "tries" as you held it. It appears to have worked if you had formerly too little chassis battery strength from which to turn her over. This switch appears to be working correctly.

[BTW, the solenoid is located just off the house batteries within 18-24 inches.]

Your engine alternator is an excellent re-charger; but your chassis battery might be showing some age despite the good status. Disconnect it completely and see if it's storage drops off dramatically over a 2-3 day period. Do not begin this comparative strength until the battery has set and cooled-off from charging for approx. 3 hours. Take a voltage reading then as your benchmark. Make it as precise as possible, tenths or hundreths if you have a digital multimeter. Take additional readings of voltage state after 24, 48 and 36 hours have passed.

I failed to mention the batteries are 15 months old.

So it is the "solenoid" that links the 2 battery banks together when the battery assist toggle is engaged?

Back to the "good" testing on the batteries, I took the batteries out of the coach and had this test run at an Interstate dealer where the worker attached the tester and the readout gave the measured voltage, 12.67 and CCA 850 and 972.
Somehow I thought the test would show whether the batteries had the capacity to "hold" a charge.
Is this the industry standard to determine battery condition?

The battery boost switch triggers the solenoid to connect the two banks of batteries only when the switch is depressed. The solenoid is also triggered when the alternator is charging so that both banks of batteries can be charged while driving.
