Oops in NC

1 Attachment(s)
This was on Rt 52 south at exit 118 above Winston-Salem this morning about 08:30. Looks like a new unit and a transport truck heading to the dealer. I was told the car hit the drivers side of the trailer coming off the on ramp. And then spun around to in front of the 5er hit another pick up then back into the 5er unit.

Looks like the driver of the small car ignored the rule of tonnage! I don't notice any damage on the trailer?

I don't see any damage there even in the enlarged picture.

The rig appears to be sitting at the end of the acceleration lane of an on-ramp into the right lane, otherwise there would be a solid white line to the left of the rig, and a continuation of that pavement in front of the dually. The pickup in front of the dually has a solid white line to the left of it.
FWIW, I can't see any trailer damage either.

There is no way to know exactly how this Oops happened...but 1 thing I know from real life experience is that many car drivers do not know how to safely merge.

If at all possible, I move to the left when approaching any on-ramp. We are just over 50' (RV & dingy), and the typical car driver will just not yield and merge to a rig that big...instead they will often try to race to get ahead. It can get very scary.

This might have been the case in NC.

The damage to the trailer is on the right side. The trailer was on the highway the car came down the ramp side swiped the trailer and truck. Then spun out and hit another truck that was in the left lane. The 5er unit went right to avoid and the car came back and hit the tow in the left front. That was a new unit going to a dealer.

Does the "wheel well" look like that new? I am looking @ the molding between the TT's wheels sure don't look straight to me. It looks like a dent .
Maybe that's the way it comes and if it does it looks pretty crappy to me anyhoo... :nonono:
:sorrysign:

Someone is going to be disappointed at Christmas time if that was a special order.

Thank you for the explanation. I have been in that exact situation many times, but lucky for us was able to avoid the collision.

I have seen cars doing the same thing to 18Wheelers too - the car will lose that contest every time - just scary:nonono:

Safe travels

I took the pix from my 18 wheller

People having trouble merging has been an issue for me for years but in recent years texting has added a new dimension.

On my last trip back east where we spent a total of over 15 days of on road travel I had more idiots trying to hit my motor home or car than I can remember ever having before and most were texting or talking on a cellphone according to my wife who can see them in the mirror.

I also try to stay a lane over and I know that makes some folks unhappy since I will be going a maximum of about 63 mph even if the speed limit is higher.

I guess I really don't care if they are unhappy with me though.

Clay,

I agree with you. I try to stay in the middle lane just to avoid the idiots "merging" onto the highway. I also try to stay between 60 and 65 mph and sometimes the cars behind me get a little aggravated...but I do not care.

What is the alternative? Do we stay in the far right lane and brake everytime some Bozo tries to cut in front of us? I have done this on occasion but then it grows old very fast and I get frustrated because I am forced to drive in a manner that suits everyone else on the road but is not really fair. If I want to drive at the speed limit or a trifle below, I should never be penalized or cut off because of that.

I think that many people are just jealous when they see a beautiful RV going down the road. They want what we have and they feel that they can cut us off and flip us the bird because they cannot find the happiness that we have in our rolling home.

I think that we should just say to heck with them all and drive the way we want. Drive safely but never give an inch....just kidding....I always give way for the morons who try to get in front of me as they are entering the road. I am in no hurry and if they are determined to get in front of me...well I will let them....

LOL!!!

Faith and her New Hearing Aids...I HATE THEM!!!!:banghead:
