Tire pressures
 
:confused: Can anyone give advice as to what tire pressure I should start with on my TT? I'm leaving northern Michigan shortly where the nights are getting into the teens and 20's. We'll be heading for Georgia. If I fill my tires to max. psi (65lbs), will this be to high when I get to a warmer climate. Any help would be appreciated.

I would inflate your tired to max air pressure when you leave Mich. I would recheck them every morning before starting out for the day. Always check your tires cold and adjust as needed.

I always inflated to five pounds less than max at home on my TT and went from WI to AK to MA, Ga to FL with no problems.

That was on Maxxis tires.

Almost never checked the tires on the road. If I did they were not losing air, like going flat. One can see something is not right. Then, DUH, check it out!

Many moons ago if I recall right it was recommended five pounds less than max. Now that does go back many years now that I think about it. Different time and different thing happening with TT tires.

You should check TPs if the temperature changes greatly, or you change altitude. Both affect TP.

I check my tire pressure everyday on the road before I start driving. (I have a tire monitoring system, so it's easy from the drivers seat. Pressure in the tires are all based on weights on the tires. 65 degrees air temperature is considered the 'standard'. I do have a chart to adjust for higher (or lower) temperature, but it's very minor. All tires on the same axle should be at the same pressure.


I never adjust pressures after I start driving. Pressures will go up as the tire heats up from friction rolling down the road.
