I have an '03 Scottsdale and am very happy with it. I've read many times about Newmar using 16" on center aluminimum framing but have always wondered what surrounds the cockpit area. It's not specifically mentioned on their website nor in their brochures. Winnebago and Monaco claim their cockpit areas are steel reinforced. Does anyone know if Newmar coaches are built the same?

mhrm60, welcome to irv2 and the Newmar forum. http://irv2.infopop.cc/images/action.gif
The last time I had the covers off the "A" channel frame where your windshields are and where you will find easy channels for added wiring they were aluminum. There construction site only mentions the aluminum "C" channel construction. The lower frame of your chassis is all steel where you would impact something. http://irv2.infopop.cc/images/smash.gif
If you were to rollover there would be alot more moving around in coach that steel I don't think would matter. http://irv2.infopop.cc/images/nono.gif
With the size of your coach I believe you drive with utmost caution and try to leave a space all around you. http://irv2.infopop.cc/images/thumb.gif
Owning a Newmar you can become a member of the Newmar Forum and not just be a new member just say the word and I will take care of it for you. http://irv2.infopop.cc/images/nod.gif

"007" thanks for the info. I am a bit surprised though that Newmar wouldn't use a steel-reinforced cockpit in its coaches considering how well built they are.
