What's an MTD? The only MTD I know of makes outdoor power equipment.

In most of the world, manual transmissions still out number automatics. In the US, it's predominantly automatic. Until recently manual trans. gave better gas mileage over automatics. With the improvement of continuously variable transmissions, now they give better mileage in most cases.

Pipefitter, Most of the MDT out there today are a mix of stick or auto I have a 4700 International and its an auto. I have looked at alot of trucks and find around here stick is the predominate vehicle. Alot of MDT are a little underpowered so a stick makes a better choice, of course it depends on how comfortable you are driving also. Mine was a good deal so I didn't have a choice but I also might swap it over to give myself more options.

pipefitter, this is a first post I have seen your name, so welcome, myself I prefer an auto, as I drive mine to work all week, and the last thing I want is to be shifting all day coming home in rush hour traffic that's stop and go, BTW I'm an Electrician

Trucks with automatic transmissions will have better resale value.

Actually, MDT or Medium Duty Truck is an actually term.

You really have 3 choices.

First is a straight standard stick, the second is an auto like an Allison that many Class As (and Jeepoholic) have and 3rd is a hybrid, a standard that is shifted by a air.. mine is Eaton Fuller Ultrashift. With it you can be an auto or a manual. Depending on which version of the Ultrashift you have , you can have 2 or 3 petals. I have the 6 speed so I have a clutch to stop or start.

When we are on the road, we too use it as our only vehicle.
