Everyone with a Newmar DP should check the rear engine hatch door for proper alignment and latch fully engaged in the hole to hold it latched. Most have found the hinge on the left side of the door to be mis-aligned or the screws stripped out and letting the gas spring push the door up too high causing the latch to miss the hole in the bottom center. Just one of the things we need to be aware of in advance of a real problem later.

I have a 2000 DSDP and I havge a similar issue. From the latch, in the center, there are 2 rods that connect to the either side latch. The rods fit into the holes and there is nothing to hold them in place? No cotter pins, etc...I am sure that is not how they came from Newmar...any ideas on what holds the pins in place?

Ok. Am I the only with this problem??? Anyone else out there with a rear hatch issue? http://irv2.infopop.cc/images/sign0163.gif

From delivery, I had issues w/the driver's side latch not locking or coming undone during travel. When it was latched securely, it was a challenge to open the door.

Coach is at the factory now and they adjusted it. I am going to find out exactly what they did as I can see this happening again. The latching mechanism isn't the most sturdy.

On my coach the tabs that the door latches engage were too small, and the factory made larger ones. So far, so good.
