2005 Cummings 5.9L w/ Turbo
 
Hey guys and gals I have a 2006 Coachman Cross Country class A with a 2005 cummings 5.9l engine. It runs like great but the value cover, by the oil filler neck, always shows a light coat of oil after driving for several hours.

I climbed down into the engine compartment, sprayed the cover with dawn dishwashing liquid, and scrubbed the old oily residue off. Then we went to Colorado Springs and back, over 1600 miles, and there was a light covering of oil around the oil filler neck again.

I wiggled the filler neck and it can be twisted around in a circle. You have to twist with some pressure but not a lot.

The 5.9 doesn't use any oil, and when I check the dip stick it isn't showing any oil used.

The main problem is that the oily film gets drawn down by the fan since it is directing the wind from the engine towards the rear radiator and that sucks the oil film down toward the fan, radiator, and fan belt. The fan belt doesn't slip nor have I found any oil residue on the fan yet.

The oil filler neck has a large radiator hose running from it to the rear of the coach as it is a ways from the rear of the coach to the motor.

Have any of you had to have the oil filler neck rewelded to the valve cover?

I just wonder if it is to brittle what would happen to it since the engine and coach vibrate from running down the road.

Brefoe I would go through removing the valve cover, I would go to Walmart or your local parts store and get some Permatex Ultra Black and clean the filler neck/valve cover area really good, ,making sure there is no oil residue left, and the use the Ultra Black liberally around it to seal it up. It stays flexible, and is some wonderful stuff.
If it holds, which I think it will, it will be a easy repair, and if it does not, then pull the valve cover and have it repaired. https://www.permatex.com/products/ga...asket-maker-4/
