Burnt Battery Distro Center
2 Attachment(s)
Hey all, new to this forum. I'm at my in-laws, and I've run into some issues and need your opinion of how bad it is.

My father-in-law wired up his own 30A outlet in anticipation of our arrival. When I plugged in, it looked as though it was not providing any shore power. Control center showed an input ac fault. We disconnected & measured power. He had 120 on each leg (wired wrong).

I decided to use generator for the rest of my time here, but now it only runs for about 20min and shuts everything down - was running 10hrs prior to shore power. The only way to restart gennie is tho start the rig. Thought it could be an inverter issue, and that's when I saw this...what other damage should I look for?

Welcome to iRV2.

Sorry you're here with problems .

I hope that the circuit board that failed protected in some way other electrical items in the coach .

When you have the replacement board , and install it . Turn off all the RV 's circuit breakers before you hook to ; proper shore power.
With shore power established , and your sure there are no issues with the transfer switch , check for heat and smoke.
Then turn the RV's main circuit breaker , and then the other circuit breakers in the panel : one at a time : check each circuit for operation by the labels on the panel , before turning on the next circuit breaker .
Keep a list of all suspected damage , ( microwave , fridge 120 volt side , roof A/C units and inverter) you may be advised to contact you insurance company , because your problem could get expensive in a hurry.

Great info. Will do.

Well, I installed the new battery distro center that I got from RV Custom Products. Powered everything on one ckt at a time as advised above. The only issue seems to be the least I think.

Plugged into good 50A shore power and nothing. Started the rig for about 10 min to get a charge on the batteries then shut down and jacked into shore power again. Freedom 458 Inverter comes on, but cycles (growls noticeably) on and off about 20 seconds at a time. Command center never shows that it's on AC power. I shut it off after a few minutes don't want to cause more damage. Any thoughts on testing the inverter to see if it's working correctly?

Ouch !

This sounds like there has been internal damage to your inverter , the electronics inside probably sustained damage before the other board burnt up .
The internal damage MAY be repairable , but testing will be required.
Do you have a manual for the inverter ?

No manual. Did open it up, though. It blew at least 5 mosfets

Once again ,,... OUCH!!

When my rad fan control module went south , I lost one mosfet, by the number it was obsolete , but managed one to fit the bill and I've got 3 years out of the $5 part so far. Hope you can get that lucky.

Knuckled down and replaced the inverter. Didn't have time to wait for a fix. I've ordered the Mosfets for replacement some other day. The combo of the new battery distro center and inverter fixed all problems.

Unfortunately, situation comes up from time to time when people wire a 30-amp outlet with 240v outlet instead of a 120v.

Sorry that you had the problem, but it sounds like you got it under control. Hopefully others will see this and make note before they make the same mistake.
