Pizza Stone?

We finally got around to trying the oven in our motor home last night. I wanted to make sure it functioned properly before we take the rig back to the dealer at the end of the season for a few small warranty items. We kept it simple and baked some break apart chocolate chip cookies. (It was a nice cool night to eat warm cookies too!) The oven worked well except, predictably, the cookies toward the middle baked faster than the ones on the ends of the tray. Iíve heard a lot of people say to get a pizza stone to distribute heat better. Soo . . .

Where do you find a pizza stone that fits? Iíve never bought one. Are they cut to size?

I've heard you can use floor tile.... go to a tile shop and see if you can find one about the same footprint as the rack in the oven

I had good luck with air bake pans that fit in oven.
I wet cut tile/brick saw will cut stone cooking sheet to custom size.

We use a ceramic floor tile that was about an inch smaller than the oven and put it on the bottom shelf. This shielded the center from the direct heat but let it circulate around the outer edge. It solved the problem.

A granite shop will have lots of remnants. They can cut one to a perfect size for you.

The DW gets hers from Pampered Chief.

As we changed from boating to RVing, she has found the sizes she needs to fit the ovens.

Bed bath and beyond stocks them.

I was told to get unglazed floor tiles. The glazed tiles will crack from the heat.

...in the "Beyond" section.

Many sizes to choose from.

We got ours at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Amazon has all kinds of shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll start with a ceramic tile and give that a whirl.

You can also buy a steel pizza "stone" like this one: https://www.amazon.com/NerdChef-Stee...gateway&sr=8-3

You can also go to your local machine shop and ask them to cut you a piece of 304 stainless steel to the exact dimensions you want. It will probably take them about 10 minutes, if that, unless you need a weird thickness.

When you get home, clean it really well with soap and water to get off the schmoo from the machining process. Then stick it in your (home) oven, set it to 450, open your windows, and bake it for 30 minutes. That should burn off anything that's left.

One thing to keep in mind with any stone is that you will have to leave it in your oven until it cools naturally. The entire time it's cooling down, it's also heating up your RV.

+1 for pampered chef. When my wife first purchased a few pampered chef stones I was skeptical, but now Iím so glad she did as it makes a big difference on the heat distribution and even cooking. Cookies, pizza, casseroles, etc. Weíve added several different shaped/sized pieces to our collection over the years and use them regularly at home and on the road in the rv.

Iím not sure if they are the same thing as whatís sold at Bed Bath and beyond, but for us pampered chef is a winner!
