Trans com error
 
Thought we had problems with vansco, but was starter batteries. Those have been replaced
Vansco now works but won't start,
Get trans com error. HELP
we are currently at Emerald Cove RV Resort

Just talked with Dick.


Allison shift pad does not illuminate, so can't check for codes.



He is going to double check all connections at battery.


If that doesn't do it, he will post exactly what is and is not working so someone with Vansco experience can help him troubleshoot.


Our 2003 was pre-Vansco, so I can't help with that part.

Have double checked all the wires to battery connects
All seem to be connected ok. No change in error message. Allison shift pad still does not light up. By the way our alpine is a 2005 mid door. Not sure where to go next
Will go tomorrow to get a voltage meter, thanks again wolf

Hi There,
I am certainly no expert on this topic, but here a couple of things I would do.

The comm error / not starting issue is because the engine computer cannot see that the transmission is in neutral. Often this is a fuse or wiring issue.
First I would do a reboot.
1. Turn both house and chassis main switch off.
2. Take off positive wire from the chassis battery and wait 5 min
3. Reconnect positive wire
4. Turn chassis and house back on

Next is that you would want to check the fuses in the fuse box on the back wall of the battery bay. In the lower row the 3rd fuse from the right (10A) is the Transmission power supply - see if this one is good.
Also the center row very right hand one is for the transmission / Ignition.
One of them might be blown as you do not have the Shift panel lit.

Also if you look under the shift selector panel (laying on the floor with flashlight next to driver seat) check that the plug is seated all the way.

That's all I can think of right now. Oh yes - The comm wire is the orange /green twisted wire that you see also at the ABS module in the engine bay. Check that plug as well.

Thanks to those who tried to help. Nothing has changed. From the begging, both vansco multiplex systems were dead. No power to ignition system,blinds,steps, nothing. Unplug ed front vansco for 5 min. Plugged back in, nothing changed. Jumped batteries, vansco systems lit up. Replaced starter batteries. Steps, blinds, dashboard all working. Read out on dash , trans com error. No power to shift panel and won't start. Checked fuses in battery bay. Ok. turned off house and chassis batteries. No change. Don't know what else to do. PLease help somebody. Phone 801-710-3332.

….less likely but possible that your Allison keypad and/or TCM have failed...I had the keypad fail on my 2003 several years ago.....worked with transmissionstruments.com [not affiliated with Allison] in Flower Mound TX....to diagnose and repair the keypad.....requires you to remove both keypad and TCM components [plug n play] and sent them to TI....they will diagnose both and recommend repairs for a flat rate.....great people to work with......

Hardy's are on the road. Morals of the story-
1. start with a good mega-watt trouble light so you can see what you are doing. And get yourself a Power Probe (amazon) for easy diagnosis if you are not versed in using a volt-ohm meter.
2. Exercise caution when changing batteries so cables don't accidentally strike where they shouldn't
3. If despite best intentions for #2, your coach won't start, only remove one fuse at a time & replace it with a known good fuse of proper rating in the same position on fuse block so there are no empty fuse sockets or blown fuses where there should be good, properly sized fuses.
4. If you can't see very well, maybe your spouse can.

I do see some humor in your post Mike:rofl:, but not sure the Hardy's do;).


Glad you are back on the road!!!

Dick don't feel bad, I lost a day camping with the grandchildren after I replaced the coach batteries and left a ground connection loose on the starter batteries. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE told me to retrace my steps. Spent hours and hours and finally slowed down and there it was all the time. Right in front of me:banghead:. Just a couple twists of the wrench:laugh:

Sometimes it is the easy stuff, but too hard to see because we expect or imagine the worst!!
