1994 Itasca Suncruiser Dash AC/Heater Repair

Does anyone have any experience repairing their dash AC? My bowden cable bent. It looks like I need Evans part RV212167. Any tips on fixing it? Anyone know the best way to remove the dash unit?

Has anyone upgraded the unit using RV219472? Might be nice to get rid of the bowden cable in the first place.

Thanks!

Sean

That Bowden cable is a PITA. There are a couple places that sell a replacement cable for around $100. $600 to convert to a later GM version to me isnít worth the cost. Instead I drilled a 5/8 hole in the lower dash fascia and installed a $30 Push/pull PTO cable. The PTO cable takes a more direct route and is much smoother in operation. To remove the HVAC control you have to remove the radio first.

PTO cable

Do you recall which PTO cable you used. I tried this route, but I think my cable is too thin. I can pull, but the push option doesn't provide enough pressure to open the flap.

10 FOOT (120") PTO PUSH PULL CABLE ASSEMBLY - INCLUDES KNOB https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0758356JJ..._IuO5Db1WTK6SK

Cut to length, The knob is big about 2Ē in diameter, I was going to change it but my wife likes the large size making it easier to operate, Iíll upload a couple of pics later today

When I drilled the hole in the dash,I drilled a hole straight back through the fire wall. This PTO cable is thick and doesnít like small radiuses I made a gentle 180 bend under the hood. Where it terminates at the blend door I drilled the hole in the clamping plate larger to accommodate the PTOís cable clamp.

Thank you. That helps. I'll swap out my crappy one for this one.
