Gasser and Aux Brake
I have a Gasser on a Workhorse chassis and tow a 2009 Jeep Wrangler.

I want to add an aux braking system, but don't really want one of the Break Buddy types that sit in the floor. Are there any other good options available for me?

Hi Ben,
If you are going to keep the Jeep, consider a USGEAR Unified Brake System. Hookup and unhook is a single plug. Go to Unified Tow Brake and read about it. I've had mine for 5 years. It works as advertised and I would make the same purchase again.

I've been looking at the SMI, it sure does look like a great solution, but...

If it's permanently installed, you'd think it was vehicle specific, and yet when you click "but one" it never asks what you're installing it on?

That's right! One size fits all! :thumb:

The only thing that differentiates the systems is whether or not your motorhome has air brakes or hydraulic brakes. Air Force One is for air brakes, Stay-In-Play DUO is for hydraulic brakes.

I consider the brake buddy types that sit on the floor to be a very bad option, several reasons most of which have to do with the fact that you have to INSTALL it every time you tow.. This means there is a chance of messing it up EVERY TIME YOU TOW and "oh it's too much trouble for this short trip"

M&G makes a nice air powered system that can be used even with a gasser, works well on most Jeeps.

In addition US Gear makes the Unified Brake Decelerator.. IT is purportional (you can adjust the gain) progressive (the harder your brake the harder it breakes) It will NOT run down the toweds battery (in fact it will keep it charged on a long trip) it will NOT false if you are going down hill since it's activated (normally) by the brake pedal or optionally by a manual control on the dash. In short it gives me the same control over my towed brakes that my brother has over his towed (Trailer) brakes on his Semi Truck. Can't beat it.

This is the one I'd suggest. Oh and the "Install" when you go to tow.. You plug in the umbicial and hook up the break-a-way It is as hard to hook up as plugging in the lights.

Or do they just give us the piston, and we have to fabricate the brackets to holg it in, and remove and drill a hole in the brake pedal arm, and go find and buy the proper vacuum T's and check vakves to hook the booster up?

They don't even bother to ask what you're gonna put it in so they can say "that truck has a hydroboost, this won't work, not compatible..."

I reallt really like the idea... I'd like it more if I could download the instructions... I'd like it a lot more if it was vehicle specific and included correct bracketry and at least a little confidence that the geometry would be right. The power of that thing has a lot to do with the distance from the pedal arm pivot to the attacvhment point...
And these things have an equal and opposite reaction right? Tie it to the bottom of the dah wrong, it will push that dash right onto the front seat the first time it applies the brakes.

Sorry, ain't buying one size fits all here, no way.
