I use a couple of suction cups from Harbor Freight Tools and a short bungee cord. Also comes in handy when wanting to hold the entrance door open on windy days. Will not harm paint.

I have a 2014 and on mine the switch is not a thermistor. It is a bi metal snap switch. Follow the wires from the fan and they will lead you right to it.
