Ok so the alignment was very simple the hard part has getting that damn nut loose it was very tight. When you loosen it it will brake loose then get tight agian you still have to continue to loosen...

I am no expert on heat pumps but have taken a class in HVAC.

You may have a bad thermostat they do go bad.

You may have a shorted or grounded t-stat wire or a connection come loose on one end...
