Well, I called Carefree of Colorado and asked their support guy about this.

You are correct, there is only one spring and it does go on the rear facing end of the fabric tube.

I took took a good look at the front side arm that would connect to a spring and it looks to have had a spring at some time from wear marks.

Also seeing EBay auctions...

I have just taken apart my Carefree of Colorado Omega II because I thought I had a broken wind up spring.

I only found one spring on the rear end of the main tube and no spring on the front end of...
