I was able to remove the nut on the end of the rod that runs the step out. At that point I was able to screw the ride all the way back in and probably a little farther in the step goes that allowed...

OK who solved the problem. I got my step cover stuck in the out position on my 2001 tradewinds and can not find access to the mechanism. don't know where to start cutting to get to the problem.
