Fuel gauge on Holiday Rambler

I have a 2007 Holiday Rambler Neptune XL that has a fuel gauge that wanders so that I never can be sure how much diesel I have. I can guestimate by the mileage but it would be nice if the fuel gauge would give a reliable indication. Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it.

My 08 Knight is the same way, especially when 3/4 full, all over the board, any where to 1/2 to above 3/4.

Here is a link to a calibration method.

I did this and it helped but still not as accurate as my Silverleaf VPms

Mine (2004 Camelot) just stays on full all the time. If you drive till about half a tank then let it sit over night the next morning it's back to working. Soon as you drive though after it sloshes around a bit it goes back to full. We just deal with it an know how far we can drive before filling up.

My '03 has been reading full for about 6 months. Before settling on full it searched around and would randomly settle on some reading. Rather than fixing the gauge/sensor, I'm thinking about going to Silverleaf. Jacwjames, can you tell me briefly how it works. Does it use fuel flow to calculate total fuel usage and then you subtract from the full tank value? Does it include generator fuel usage? Thanks.

The Silverleaf system is pretty robust monitoring a number of parameters that you can select and set up as you want.

One parameter is a trip log that measures miles traveled time, fuel consumption and provides mpg and miles left to travel. You can also have separate gauges for each of this. To set this up you have to input your fuel tank capacity, in my case 128 gallons. I actually have 2 trip gauges, one for current trip and one to register yearly.

Here's their website with pictures of various configurations of their system.
VMSpc Gallery of Installations | SilverLeaf Electronics, Inc.

You can download the software and play with it.

You can buy the Silverleaf system from them of RV Upgrades, which ever has a better price. You can also find used units. The data module hooks up to your data port, in my case it is located under the dash, left of the steering wheel. Plug it in, run the data line to your laptop and go through the set up process, you have to select the engine you want. One issue I had was getting it to recognize my engine, for some reason I had to go through each port on the computer finally finding it on port #19.

Once it recognizes the engine you can go through and set up your screen.

The Centroid Guage system does not appear to be very durable. I replaced mine in 07 and it lasted about 6 years before it went bad again. I have been driving using mileage as a guide and keeping generator usage by hours of use. Not a desirable record keeping system, but for the past 3 years I have gotten use to it. Especially when a new Guage costs upward of $75. Good luck.

I had to replace my OEM Centroid at about 10 years of ago. The new version doesn't have an adjustment for full like the OEM version.
