1996 Holiday Rambler Vacationer Series M-31CB Chevrolet/Ford
hello, I have a new to me 1996 HR Vacationer M-31cb,, the
vin#1GBLP37J9T3310423
what chassis do I have, does it have the vortec motor? I know they changed the chassis and the body style that year, and some of the vacationer's were the new body style as is mine. Just wondering, I bought this MH, over the internet, and have not taken delivery yet, as I am still overseas. I did have a buddy look it over, so I was not completely blind, but, still, I am just wondering if anyone can answer these questions? thanks in advance!

I'm sure other members will be along shortly with a full breakdown of you serial number, and info on, if it is considered a Chev chassis, or Workhorse.

That VIN # is for a 1995 model year GM chassis model P32. I don't think the Vortec engine was available then, and it is mostly a 454 cu. in. V-8. It will likely have the infamous J-71 AAPB.....
Welcome to iRV2, where you can get lots of help...and will probably need it.

p-32 J-71 AAPB
Ok then, from what I have read, I will need to go to Amazon or Ebay and get the green and gray sensors and keep them with me, for spares! It all seems pretty straight forward to me, and I think with all the info I have read here, and everyone comments, I am not worried! One question thou,, was the auto park put on the less than 15,000 lbs MH's? And will the Holiday Rambler Vacationer M-31 CB, 32' MH be less than the 15,000 lbs.? As I have not taken delivery of this coach yet, and won't for several month's, as I am oversea's , I may be worry'ng for nothing, if it does not have the auto park feature! I am glad to learn all about it anyway, so I am well schooled on it, and will not be surprised if that yellow light comes on!! I do not see any light on the dash that looks like it, but that does not mean anything, as there are spots I cannot see!! Thanks guys, And ED, for your banter. It got me reading, for sure!!!!!

You have the right attitude. You know about the possible issues with the Autopark and will be prepared with spare switches.
My 2002 P32 in 98k miles had Autopark problems 3 times. first 2 times it was the RGS (Brown) and the last time the light came on, it was the grey switch.
The grey switch controls the light on the dash. Temporarily disconnect it to see the light on the dash. But you shouldn,t have to do that, the light on the dash should come on as soon as you turn on the key as a light bulb test.
OUB has designed an early warning light box, you should look into building one for your MH.

You are correct that "some" of the lighter GVWR chassis did not need the J71 AAPB, but I don't have any firm data on which ones avoided it during the GM era. I also don't know which GVWR chassis HR used back then. Once you see the coach in person, look for the "yellow Knob" AAPB release switch on the dash.
As MGSCOTT4 posted, get the instructions from OUB about building his "early warning light" device to catch potential failures BEFORE they happen. OUB is Roger Haag via email to: oldusedbear11@charter.net
His is the best free advice available about the J71.

I am not sure about the 32 ft HR, but my 2002 Fleetwood Flair 30 ft , Workhorse 8.1l, P32 chassis , no slide, had a GVWR of 17,500 lbs.

Update, my buddy just got back from finalizing all the paperwork, and paying for the HR, Vacationer! And it does not have the auto park, so my guess, it is under the 15,000lb. It is the 454 fi. 4speed auto with o/d , not a vortec, and the older chassis. Wow, MGScott4, that newer chassis and motor weigh a lot more for sure, my last motor home was a overland 35' class A, on a Oshkosh chassis, with the 460 ford, it weighed 15,000, and the chassis was rated at 18,000 lbs! Well the first thing I will do when I get there is to crawl under the coach, and look to see for sure if it indeed does not have the auto park! But for sure there is no yellow Knob on or around the dash, and no light that he could see? So, my fingers are crossed!! Thanks, All!!!!

Ours is a 95 P32 chassis, GVW of 12K I think... (28') Has the old hand brake lever under the dash on the left side... Works fine... Good luck on your 'new' RV !!! You'll find all the answers you need on this great site !!! Monkey
