Your tv will work with cable, sat, but will not receive on air channels without a converter box to convert the digital signal to analog. You should consider replacing the tv with a 26 or 32 inch flat panel set. They don't cost much now a days.

I cured the problem. I took out the 75 pound TV and installed a 32" flat screen.
Thanks for all the input.

To me it sounds like prior owner may have bolixed the system,, they often do that when installing sat because the sat installer has rump syndrome "Why would anyone want to watch anything but our fine product?"

But to watch a DVD you have a couple of diffent ways it may be hooked up.

ONE: I have a home theater.. now Damon put in "Y" connectors so the DVD feeds one of the A/V in feeds on the Front TV, as well as the HOME theater and the Modulator in the BOMB (Box of many buttons or Matrix Switch) So long as the POWER (Red light) is on, I get DVD on either Channel 3 or 4 if I have selected DVD for that TV. (mine is PROPERLY Wired.. NOTE: I did have to fix a factory screw up)

I can also play DVD or CD audio via the HOME theater

Or, on the MAIN Tv watch DVD via A/V in

This is how it is supposed to be wired.

But you said "I can only watch with the Receiver on"

An alternate, and 100% valid hookup, this is still right

The DVD would feed the "home theater" and then everything else so it would have to be on

but if you meant the Satellite Receiver,, Somebody messed up your wiring. ]

Most likely....

Instead of running the SAT coax to the BOMB like they should they ran it to the MAIN TV and then ran the lead that used to hook to Main TV to "ANT IN" on the Sat box.

I have sense changed both TV'S to flat screens. Remove the receiver which didn't make any sense how it was wired.
I now get channels from the antenna and can play DVD's on both TV,s as well as watch TV and DVD,S at the same time. Not to mention removing 135 lbs.
