1 or 2 A/C on Grand Design 2800BH

Looking for owners with experience with a trailer of this size that only have 1 15btu AC vs. 1 15btu?

Thanks, KIM

Kim,

We started out with a 32 foot travel trailer with only 1 AC. The bedroom was in the back so it was not comfortable most of the summer. When we decided to upgrade, having 2 ACs was top on the list.

Best of luck with your decision.

Tim

I had a similar length TT and in the heat of the summer it really needed another AC.

If I was in Texas, I would have four a/c's.

Is it 50A ?
If yes..has it been wired for 2nd A/C

Already wired would just involve adding the 2nd A/C in place of roof vent (same size opening used)

Have you checked out the grand design owners forum? Lot of active and knowledgeable folks about their specific products. I only ask bc I see several questions regarding them. It's a non-company site so no censorship of negative items.

Grand Design makes a well insulated trailer. We have the 2600RB (29' 6") in Texas and are fine with one 15K AC.

As a previous poster said the Grand Design forum has kicked around this question a lot. Some folks add and don't use both and then some would not leave CA without it. YMMV https://www.granddesignowners.com/fo...757#post218757

My advise would be to try it with one and see it. Adding a 2nd AC can range from $1000-1500. Your call.

You state you have 30 amp service. Odds are you are not prepped for a second A/C. To run dual air you need to have 50 amp service. It would be very expensive to add a second air, but like most things in life it can be done with enough time and money. If you are questioning if you should order dual air on a new unit, your less expensive option would be to go to 50 amp service with second air prep. Then it's an easy and much less expensive add on. It's even in the DIY realm.

I'd do a bit more research on how other owners have done with one AC. Our 2002 Sunline trailer (28') only had one AC unit (ducted) and it was very efficient. Can you get the R factor for the ceiling and walls? Are double pane windows available? Those are factors that can make a difference and obviously, you want a ducted AC system.

Just looked at the specs and the roof is R40 equivalent but the walls are only R7. If the exterior is predominately white, that helps. One thing you could do is look at one on a very hot day and insist that they power up the AC and see how it handles the heat. If you get one with the optional 4 season package, it may help and certainly be beneficial in cold weather.
