Cleaning Exterior Holiday Rambler

We have a 2003 HR Vacationer on a Workhorse chassis. I have a problem and need some suggestions. This coach has aluminum side walls that are painted white and have decals. The white paint does not have clear coat. The coach probably should be repainted white, but in the meantime ….

The white paint is thin in places and the aluminum slightly shows through so I can't be aggressive with my cleaning. The white paint does show dirt and it discolors easily. On this type of coach and paint what have you used to clean the buggar? Also, is there any type of sealant that could be applied for the short term? I'm really considering giving it a good cleaning using a Dawn and water mixture. Then follow this up with Zep floor polish for a temporary shine.

I really do look forward to suggestions. I really need some input on this problem. HELP!!!!!!

I think you really know what needs to be done and paint but that is a major job. If you have enough paint, Rub the unit out with a FINE rubbing compound then wax. But it sounds like the paint is already so thin you would have to be really careful. I think just clean and wax for now would be easiest but not a cure all.

We were cleaning the roof with a mixture of water and LA'S Totally Awesome when some of the solution ran down onto a small portion of the painted sidewall. It removed a sheet of white paint almost down to the aluminum wall. So, I don't think this degreaser/cleaner is safe to use on all painted surfaces. It has created a mess for us.

Thanks for the suggestion, but this would strip all my white paint.

Sorry to hear that. I guess the siding on old 84 Shasta was probably baked on enamel .Used to scrub it good and use WD40 out of gallon like spray wax ,sold it to Son's friend paint still looks pretty good.

DON'T USE DAWN! With a little scrubbing it'll remove that pesky paint. Ask me how I know.
