Clarification needed... Are you asking about the Hot Water Heater, or the basement heat to keep fresh and gray/black tanks from freezing?

Tank heat

The tank heat I'm talking about is the 12 volt heater to the basement water tank compartment. Sorry for the confusion.

My question is, how do you know if it's working? Just because the light is working doesn't mean it's getting hot, just like the wet area heater. I just added a small 120v 200w heater in the wet bay along with a thermal switch.

You can install a wireless remote thermometer sensor in your wet-bay to allow you to monitor the temp from the comfort inside the RV.

My RV has only the 12vdc heater (no heat-pads on the actual tanks). I've been in 5-degree weather...and all as OK. I can see the slight glow of the heating coil when it's ON.

Why not just use a wireless unit like this?
