Holiday Rambler Battery Low Water
I recently purchased a 1996 Holiday Rambler Imperial. In going through and inspecting everything I discovered that the relatively new batteries had low water. Water below the plates. I have read that golf courses often use an additive to help restore and lengthen the life.
Anyone have any experience with additives? Reviews have been mixed with good and bad. Snake oil or worth a try? They still hold a pretty good charge and I have had no issues with power in the motor home since I purchased them.

Why not just top them off with distilled water and see how they work for a while?

That is what I have done and am doing. I was just trying to be proactive. If there is something I can now do to extend there life for relatively low cost it seems like a good thing. Just enough people have said its snake oil to make me question the cost.

Some of us add an ounce of glycerin to top off the cell to help with out gassing.

You can buy electrolyte additives for batteries at some auto parts stores. If you have a Nap parts store near by, try them first.

4 Oz of Mineral oil per cell from Wallyworld. I added oil to mine when they were new about 7 years ago. I fully expect to see another 2-3 years of service. The layer of oil will control the off gasing resulting in a much cleaner battery compartment and almost zero terminal corrosion.
I use a recycled ketchup bottle with a piece of 3/16" clear tubing to add distilled water.

The 4 Oz of oil is a one time thing. Add when the level drops enough to accommodate the 4 Oz. The bottle is to add water as needed.
