I'm new to the community and hope I'm posting in the right spot. I have a 1987 Holiday Rambler Imperial on a p30 chassis with the 454. The electric fuel pump was replaced about 1,200 miles ago along with the mechanical pump. Everything ran great for a few trip that totaled about 900 miles.
Then it started to burn through the rear spark plug wires on each side and having problems cutting out and trying to die on long uphills. It burned through the wires twice both times burning them at the end of the spark plug. I replaced them with ceramic plug wires and haven't had an issue with them burning through since.
However I still have the issue of it cutting out going uphill or even on a flat if I try to give it very much gas at all. I can keep it around 2,200 rpm or less and not have a problem. It idles great and drives around town at low speeds perfectly, but when I take it out on the highway is when I have the issue. I replaced both the inline fuel filter and the small filter on the carburetor with no change.
It seems to me that it is not getting enough fuel. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

Several years ago on y P30 454 I had the backfire problems under load, mainly going up hills. Turned out it was way out, like 10 degrees, of time. once the timing was correctly set it ran fine. I also had the ceramic plug wires, and a Banks intake, headers, and exhaust system.
Welcome to the group, I had a similar problem, and after changing the carburetor with a known working one, the problem was fixed, run like a champ. The metering rods in the quadrajet were sticking down and not allowing it to get enough fuel. I would suggest you purchase a new one or have it rebuilt by a experience carburetor person.
