Greetings Mates:

Its a bit hot over here in AZ, even in October, so the wife and I are looking at upgrading our AC vents to get some quick relief. Dont get me wrong, the a/cs work great! But, when we were RV shopping, we came across one rv that had an upgraded intake vent that let cold air dump directly into the cab beneath it--it was amazing!
Does anyone know what these vents are called so I can search for them?

What model and year are you referring to? The front AC unit in our '09 Navigator has ceiling vents that are located almost directly over the driver and passenger seats that work well. However, you must be running the generator in order to feel it. Is that what you are referring to? Or are you saying it was an enhancement to the dash air?...Bob

No it's not. The guy that owned the one RV that had them said they were aftermarket purchase. It replaces the current ac intake with an intake that also directs air flow straight down into the coach (rather than go through the ducts). My current system works great... The wife Just really liked how quick the other vents cooled down the coach.

Coleman Chill grill. Replaces the intake on certain Coleman A/C units. Couple thoughts.

Does your unit have a two speed fan? Set on high? You may be getting freeze up of the coil with low air flow. The lower you set the thermostat the warmer it gets as it continues to freeze up.

Also, have you tried partially closing several of the vents in the less used areas?

Lastly... a long shot.... My Mach 8 unit is ducted. Coleman doesn't use a lot of care in design or in execution. The units are designed to be either dusted OR old school where the cold air ones out around the return/filter assembly.

Pull the return fascia and check to see that the essential air return blocking plate is installed and correctly installed. In the ducted system....little / no cold air should be coming out around the return. If it is, you may wish to fix that. I used a thin sheet of styro insulation cut to fit and applied aluminum foil HVAC tape over it and to seal the "blow-by" and force more air out the ducts. The blocking sheet angles from the back edge of the return up down to the rear frame... It also smoothes the air flow to the small air return. = quieter.

Note: you can't do that with a chill grill.....

I think all the ducted Dometic AC systems have that feature. You can select vent openings along the side ducts in ceiling of the rig or just dump all air out the AC grill or a combination of both.

I know my old rig does. I just replaced the salon AC so unfortunately I am intimately familiar with ours.

If you do not have ducted AC system then it all dumps from the AC grill.

My system is ducted and works great. No problems frm either unit. I was just really impressed with how well those ac grill vents work. Thanks for giving me the name of em!
