Description: To reach Whittington Woods Campgrounds take I-57 (North or South bound) to IL State Highway 154. When you reach IL 154 turn right onto IL State Highway 37. The campground is 3/4 of a mile south and on the right hand side of the road.

This campground is 10 minutes or so North of Benton, IL.

Pros: Just about all of the grounds are shaded. Level or mostly level gravel sites. Lots of ammenities!! Everything at this campground is very nicely done.
Cons: You must stay off the grass, however, they just seeded.

This review is based on one night stay Sept. 24th 2011. We have a 34 ft southwind MH. We also have 7 children and my oldest teen son likes to put up a tent. This place is very well maintained and the staff is awesome!

We had looked for another campground when my large family outgrew the Benton KOA. To our surprise I think we found a better campground.
This campground is in a good location as far as needing to be close to shopping. One would just need to go south a few minutes to find a Wal-mart, McD's and the like.

I wanted a site close to the park. I need to be able to see my children. However on site 7 our electric cord and water hose was too short to reach their hookups. We could have purchased an extension for each, however, Mrs. Christensen wanted to see if we would be better accommodated in a back in site (site 7 was a pull through). We were better accommodated in site 28. She also told us to spread out to the site next to use for our son's tent at no charge. I was able to see the children playing from this site.

We did pay more than what the normal RV'ers will. They do charge per person if you have more than 2 people in your party. (We do prefer this as we have a large family and we feel we aren't taking advantage of anyone.) We are finding that more and more campgrounds are refusing to accommodate groups our size so we are grateful to pay the extra to the ones who allow us. (KOA stopped allowing groups our size)

OK back to our stay. Just about the whole grounds are shaded. There is a very nice pool and playground for the kids and you can fairly well see the playground from most of the sites. They have a ton of stuff to do activity wise. We even enjoyed some live bluegrass music. Well that is until the children grew tired and cold one by one. We loved having fire rings and picnic tables at each site (something we haven't had before) The sites were very close to level as we didn't need to use our jacks. The store was fairly stocked, the only thing they lacked were lighters and Mrs. Christensen ran over to her house and gave me matches.

When 7PM rolled around they had a live blue grass band and snacks! And of course a big campfire! This was a rare treat for our family and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is a great place to stay and we look forward to going back next year. If you are passing through Southern IL (along I-64 or I-57) Stop by and see Mary and Reed! I can't say anything bad about this place.

Pros: they keep this campground spotless. Great folks.
Cons: Too far from Ga. to stay here often.

The campground is very neat and clean. One other thing in its favor, is the Shell Station. ( just a stones throw down the road.) It is a easy in and out. Come in the side road and the pumps are at an angle to the station. This is important when you are 35 ft. plus a toad.
