Thompkins Bend park is a Corp of Engineers park on Lake Ouachita in Ark. We ran into an electrical problem (high voltage, and my protection system kept kicking my power off and on all night long, all three nights. I complained to the management and they were aware of the problem, but didn't seem to understand why it was happening...claimed too many campers. Anyway, make sure you have power protection or avoid this camp. It is a big lake with lots of different campgrounds. We booked this one like all our COE reservations through Recreation.gov. We always use the Am the Beautiful card (over 62+) and get half price at all COE campgrounds. This one is typical of all COEs we have stayed at...older and tight, and you have to pick your site carefully for a 40' motorhome! This site offers water and 50 amp. Lots and lots of campers here...all focused on boating. Tons of sites are such that folks put their boat into the water and then beach it next to their site. We probably saw fifty boats beached around the camp. When we arrived the lady that checked us in knew exactly which site we were going to....not many can handle us. However, easy parking (tight, but straight back). Site is level and deep (65' or so). Lots of trees so no tv for us this week. Lots of walking trails and lots of wildlife.

See my review above. This lake is huge and there are campgrounds everywhere. We always stay at COE parks when they are convenient and we can reserve a big enough site...we get half price due to the America the Beautiful pass. This place doesn't have sewer but dump is close. 50 amps, but last night my "protector" kicked us off electric several times due to high voltage on L2. Only happened the one time...the first night, but still...wierd. Update: happened about five times the next evening. I was getting about 135+ volts on L2. I stopped and told the front office. They admitted that with the recent hot weather and lots of campers the electrical system was under challenge. (SOOO...if you go use this park, make sure you have your power and surge protection plugged in. If not, don't go! ) If you like to fish and have a boat, this is a great place to come for a week or so...you can pull your boat right up on the bank next to your parking spot. We are going to Hot Springs tomorrow to visit the farmer's market...it is only about 30 minutes away.
