This State Park is just northwest of Gainsville, not to far off I-75 outside of High Springs. While it has paved roads, the CG sites are all dirt and very little gravel. They have two CGS, one away from the Santa Fe river and the other close to the river. No waterfront sites. It's old Florida. They do not like to cut the limbs and trees so it makes it not to Motor home friendly. The sites are disigned for trailer in the 60's with 90 degree angle back in sites. The CG is sutibable for exploring the area, but I would view it as a desigination park. Its a little to far off I-75 for an over night stop. s/Toby

If you want to stay away from everything, and visit old mid-Florida this CG would be alright for a couple of days. Needs updating badly. s/Toby

Pros:
|
Old Fla. Heavily wooded & lots of wildlife
|
Cons:
|
Camp sites, roads & utilities need complete renovation
|

Stayed here in October in a 36' motorhome. It was a very tight squeeze getting in and out - anything larger would be a severe challenge. Camp site roads are dirt/sand and the trees are not cut back. Very heavily wooded. Facility maintenance is average. The park offers several miles of hiking trails and there is a bicycle trail adjoining the park entrance. All of the park's roads are paved except the camp sites. O.K. for one or two nights of quiet in the boondocks R & R. There are a limited number of 50 Amp hookups. Not big rig friendly. Florida residents who are 65 + stay for 50% off the current site fee. There are 2 campgrounds - both are in need of a complete renovation.

We stayed here on 24 Dec.2010 on our way to South Florida. Stayed one night only. We travel in a motorhome and this park was very tight to manuveur in. Trees and brush very close so you need to be very careful. Road to campsite was very rough. I would hate to have to back into a site after dark. Bathhouse was fairly new and clean as was the park overall. We had never stayed here before and were just checking the campground out. It was very quiet and restful for us but due to the close confines of the roads we most likely want come back.

Close to canoeing and nice trails, natural setting

Cons:

mostly sand and dirt roads

Some areas of the park are a little tight for larger RVs but I recently had a 34' class A there while heading to Tampa to trade in for a 40' Class A. I stayed in the same site with each RV and was able to manage with care to drive and park my RVs there. it can be a tight squeeze at times but manageable. The historical CCC parts of the park are great and they have some nice trails to hike. The park volunteers just finished a turtle habitat to help protect a few turtles that cannot be released back into the wild.

Another good, but older Florida state park. Bath house was clean, but dated. Water and electric at each spot. Plenty of back-in room for our 32' motorhome. Picnic table and fire ring. We paid with the resident discount. High Springs has restaurants and shopping. A Winn Dixie is a couple of miles distance. Good access to the river, which is interesting as it goes underground and surfaces at another park. YouTube shows divers going thru the underground portion. My wish is that Florida would put in gravel at so many of their parks! There is a dump station.
