There are many options for enjoying the RV lifestyle. From tiny teardrop trailers, to fifth wheels, to giant land yachts. No one RV is right for everyone. My wife and I started our RV adventure as part-timers over 20 years ago. Our first trailer was just 23 feet, a Jayco Kiwi hybrid trailer. We could take that trailer almost anywhere, and we did!
This week were camping at Mojave River Forks regional park in Hesperia, California. We saw a camper arrive as we were taking our dog out...

In 2022 my wife and I took my recent unemployment as an opportunity to retire early and change our lives. We sold our house and everything in it, bought a new Grand Design Reflection 150, 30ft 5th wheel, and moved to Washington state.
We spent a year staying with our son and his wife, watching their new baby grow and helping them with their fixer-upper home. But having spent five decades in the warmth of Southern California, we didn’t want to go through another winter in the Pacific...

For some, the dream of retirement seems to be just that, a dream. A goal that can never be reached. For others the dream is a happy one, where we stop working and are financially secure and become active seniors. What ever your goal, you need to start planning for it early. And saving for it. I had a retirement plan, it was upended a few times in my life. When I finally got back on track, it all changed.
My plan was to work until I was 65, or 70 if I could get away with it. Sell my...

The washing machine was invented in 1851 and didn’t become popular until the 1950’s. Factories that had been repurposed to support the war effort could now turn their assembly lines to creating all manner of consumer conveniences, including home laundry machines. These however were large and cumbersome, not well suited to life on the road.
The first recognized ‘RV’ was built in 1910, according to the RVIA. As far back as people have been camping in RV’s they’ve had a need for clean...

We bought our first trailer in 2002, a Jayco Kiwi hybrid. Every summer I took my wife and son on a 3 week excursion to national and state parks across the western US and Canada, as well as other trips during the year. The first time I heard the term ‘ snowbird’ was in 2003. We were staying at Rocky Mountain National Park and my wife had been talking to a couple in the giant 5th wheel next to us and explained that they were snowbirds. Northerners who travel to warmer southern regions in winter. She...

This morning I woke up and looked out my window. Partly to see the sun, but also to remind me where I am, because it changes. At age 57 I stopped working, sold my house and all my stuff, bought a new fifth wheel, and moved 1,100 miles from the warmth of Southern California to the gloom of the Pacific Northwest. The reason is simple, and small, my new granddaughter!
After 14 months staying with the kids, watching the baby grow and helping my son with his fixer-upper home, my wife and...

This past May marked one-year for our Full-Time RV Life. The first 6 months we spent doing some modifications to our new 5th wheel, and taking some 1 and 2 week jaunts around our new home base of Vancouver, Washington. This past November as the pacific north west received its first dusting of snow, my wife and I loaded up our dog, said goodbye to our son, his wife, and our granddaughter, and headed south. We had officially become snowbirds.
We stay up to date on everything related...
