Merry Christmas

Posted 12-19-2012 at 02:57 PM by riverbender

Well, my husband had his surgery and is on the mend. Once this has healed he has to have more surgery so it looks like he will be laid up for awhile! I am hoping he is well enough to get around for the holiday! We have presents to distribute!!
Our driveway looks pretty good now that it is done, we will have to bring in some road mix in the spring and dress the hill that is left. Maybe some ground cover is in order.

Christmas will be a somber one this year with the incident...

Still at it!!

Posted 11-27-2012 at 11:41 AM by riverbender

Well, things are not going as planned here. We decided to take out a hill that blocks the view of incoming campers and makes the swing into the park a little tricky. It is nearly done, but it is taking longer than anticipated. Hopefully it will give campers a place to pull over to register allowing people already in the park to go around them and get in without waiting!
We had planned to go visit my familly for Thanksgiving (it's our annual tradition) but my husband is having some medical...

Buttoning up for the winter

Posted 10-26-2012 at 12:55 AM by riverbender

Well I jinxed the park when I reported that no one took out the new gate or ran over a power box. They both happened on the very last weekend of the year. The most expensive part of the gate, the reader was hit during check in and a power box was hit during check out. Unfortunately, no one reported hitting the gate, although someone did come in two days later to say they saw it happen, but had no idea who it was. The power box reported it, I wonder if it was because he needed help getting the...

Can it really be coming to an end?

Posted 09-16-2012 at 03:41 PM by riverbender

Seems like the season just began and we are 3 weeks from closing. How can it be? The season went well, slower than we'd like it, but not as slow as some of our friends parks. We had good bookings for all the holidays, but the weeks in between were much slower than in the past, last year was our slowest, until this year, that is!
I was starting to develop a complex, until last week when we visited with campground owners from all corners of the Northeast. Most said the same thing, slower...

Memorial Day a Success!

Posted 05-29-2012 at 08:41 PM by riverbender

We had a great Memorial Day Weekend. The park was nearly full. We had a couple of tent sites available and the one rv site we hold aside for emergencies, someone doesn't fit on their site, or they find it difficult to get on their site....or the significant other wants grass instead of shade. The weather forecast was calling for rain everyday, we had two short lived showers for the whole weekend, it was hot so the pool was put to good use. No major drama, no fist fights, no accidents, no need...

A Turtles Pace

Posted 05-01-2012 at 01:31 PM by riverbender

The season has begun and thanks to the cold, and I do mean COLD weather we have been experiencing and the very high price of fuel here in the State of Connecticut we are off to a very slow start. The weekend weather, although sunny, was very windy and very cold. Unfortunately we host most of our activites in an open pavilion, needless to say participation was down. Anyone brave enough to venture out did so in hats, gloves and scarves. I have been following the forecast and things look a little...

Mended Fences

Posted 04-15-2012 at 05:25 PM by riverbender

Well, our first weekend of 2012 has come and gone. The weather was beautiful, all the seasonals are well and happy to be back. Good to see their smiling faces!
Most of the park repairs were made, except that dern bathroom. But the sheetrock is going up today, then the FRP goes in. Unfortunately the carpenter goes in for surgery on Tuesday so after that we are on our own. We had a big fire in 2007 that took out our main building, being under insured forced us to do a lot of the rebuilding...

Only two weeks to opening...yikes

Posted 03-29-2012 at 08:32 PM by riverbender

We have been working like mad to get everything done. The power company turned the power on a week late, set us behind, and even with the warmest week in March I can remember, we are struggling to get everything done. Not in a small way because of the decision to remodel the last restroom. If you ever need something to slow down progress, bite off a project too large to comprehend! Once we got the building gutted, we realized the project was going to be larger than we thought. The building was...

Rebuilding the fence

Posted 03-12-2012 at 07:20 PM by riverbender

After a milder winter than in recent memory, we headed home. Bad weather waited for us to make that decision. We had tornado watches, rain and wind during the southern half of our journey home and snow and ice for the northern stretch. Taking our time to avoid the worst of it, we made it back in three days, so we are home again, back to the working side of the fence. After many hugs and kisses from the grandkids, we are settling back in to work. Bundlng wood, cleaning up the park, fixing tables,...

Slow climb to the other side of the fence.

Posted 02-21-2012 at 09:47 PM by riverbender

Life rocks when your house rolls! Our working vacation is in the final week. We left Florida yesterday and arrived in North Carolina today. Tomorrow, I will make a few call backs, pay a few bills and put business on the back burner so we can spend time visiting family.
We did come up with a few good ideas to bring back to our park. It's difficult to come up with new ideas but if you want to keep participation up, you need to change things up once in awhile. We are always open to new ideas,...

Using the fence as a hammock!

Posted 02-09-2012 at 08:18 PM by riverbender

Well we never made it to Disney, or Universal, but we did have two larger televisions installed in the rig. Unfortunately we are going to have to make our way back to Lakeland where we had the work done because the one in the living room keeps turning itself off. It's a good thing the one in the bedroom doesn't do it, too. We had the guys from our satellite company out here switching out our cable boxes so we can get high def, somehow our vacation has turned into a quest for better television...

No fence climbing this week!

Posted 01-21-2012 at 09:08 PM by riverbender

No business conducting this week. I am taking the whole week off. The newsletter is out, the bills are paid and someone else is handling the phones! I am going to Disney! Well, only if I can convince the hubby. Maybe universal? As much as we enjoyed spending time with family, we are over due for some fun. Next week we have a wedding, so this week is ours and ours alone. I just hope we don't waste too much time saying, I don't know, what do YOU want to do? Been married nearly 40 years,...

Still on the fun side of the fence.

Posted 01-14-2012 at 08:53 PM by riverbender

Today, we left the Tampa show for Hudson, Fl. To visit with my Aunt and Uncle. They are snow birds living in a retirement community that has mobile homes and sites for rv's. It is always good to see them and as they get on in years and their health ain't what it used to be, it feels important to spend time with them. I think they enjoy showing us around, introducing us to all their friends, taking us to the "Internet cafe". We will stay 6 nights here then head to Jetty park. In the...

Rv supershow, Tampa

Posted 01-10-2012 at 09:01 PM by riverbender

Finally back out on the road, happy to be here. This trip has us balancing on the top rail of the fence, working at the show, enjoying our rig and getting some park business taken care of when we have some down time. I probably should be working on my newsletter, but there's always tomorrow!I am happy to say after our first attempt at winterizing everything still works and there is no water gushing out of anything, I feel like we accomplished a major victory. Of course, we have five rental trailers...

Back on the other side of the fence

Posted 12-05-2011 at 08:02 PM by riverbender

We are back. About four hours later than planned thanks to Connecticuts traffic tie ups. Three bumper to bumpers, one just prior to our exit to home. But we found some low hanging branches on the road into our park. Found them when they hit the rig. Guess they will be coming down tomorrow! Happy to say the park is still here. I haven't walked into the office yet. I am waiting for daylight. I am sure there are plenty of call backs to make and mail to go through. It will be nice to touch base with...
