Solitude Near the Palm Coast -- 01/21/2020

Faver-Dykes State Park:

If there is one thing to be said about Faver Dykes State Park, it's quiet. Located just 3 miles inland from the Atlantic coast and busy Highway A1A, this place is surprisingly quiet - to an extreme.

It's also a very beautiful.

Situated 30 minutes from...

Grayton Beach: (Sea)Food and Fun -- 01/14/2020

The (Sea)Food:

If there's one thing we were looking forward to when hitting the Gulf coast, it was fresh seafood; fresh, as in harvested that day. Upon arriving, we asked the locals, "Where's the best cheap seafood in the Area?"

The answer was quick and unequivocal: "There is no...

Grayton Beach State Park: White Sands, Warm Toes -- 01/10/2020

It wan't long after arriving at Florida's Grayton Beach State Park before we were strolling barefoot along the seashore. This section of Gulf coast is naturally captivating.

When someone from the upper midwest (like us) experiences the white sand barrier dunes of the Florida Panhandle for the...

Update: What? DeFuniak Springs, FL -- 01/06/2020

About 1,000 miles of driving over two days found us relaxing at Bass Haven Campground on Juniper Lake near DeFuniak Springs in the heart of the Florida Panhandle.

While we had planned to start our warm weather adventures at Grayton Beach State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, we decided to budget a couple extra days to unwind...

RV Projects: New Bedroom Upholstery -- 12/25/2019

(This post is a long overdue wrap-up of our summer RV project list.)

One problem commonly encountered in an older RV is detail upholstery that has lasted beyond its useful life. That was certainly the case in the bedroom of our 2001 NewAire. The original styled fabrics had become time-worn and were begging to be replaced.

Happy Holidays to One and All -- 12/11/19

We'd like to share our best holiday wishes (as well as a snapshot of our favorite Christmas ornament) with everyone in the IRV2 community.

As you can see, this ornament is a depiction of a class A motorhome appropriately branded Relax.

While we've never actually encountered a full-sized version of...

Update: Winter Travel Plans -- 11/29/19

We are migrating south again, hopefully avoiding the worst of Chicago's winter weather by heading back to Florida, but this year we're leaving right after the holidays.

Last winter we didn't leave home until the 1st of February; that was a decision we still regret.

You see, last winter we departed in the midst...

Update: Yellowstone 3 - In Retrospect -- 11/09/19

Visiting Yellowstone should be on everyone's bucket list; it is an experience I would recommend for anyone at almost any age.

If we had it to do over again, this is how I would optimize that experience:

1. Plan, plan, plan: Visiting Yellowstone can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so treat it accordingly. Like most...

Proof: You Just Never Know -- 10/21/19

On a recent trip through a high pass in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming, we stopped to enjoy the rare, clear air and came fave to face with...

It's funny what effects altitude can have on some folks. Take the couple pictured above, for example. Speaking in calm but muffled voices, they told us they were...

Yellowstone Day 2: GyPSy Tour - WOW! -- 10/04/19

Our second day of touring Yellowstone was targeted at the park's north loop, the upper half of the "figure 8". Once again, we entered the park's East entrance by car, then turned north toward Canyon Village.

While our previous day's sight seeing was done riding in a 40 foot bus with a tour guide, the second day we used...

Update: Yellowstone Day 1 - Circle of Fire -- 09/29/19

We had originally planned to boondock in Yellowstone at the Canyon Campground, but our diesel generator sprang a fuel leak; with no way to recharge our batteries, we had to switch to Plan B.

So we found a full hookup RV site 1/2 between Cody, WY and Yellowstone's East Entrance, intending to use our toad to commute into the park...

Update: Yellowstone's Iconic White Bus Lives On -- 9/19/19

Let's face it: I'm a gearhead. As such, I would be remiss if we had visited Yellowstone (which we did) but did not reflect on the classic White park tour bus used for so many years at the park.

We encountered this example, Number 433, in the parking lot at Yellowstone's Canyon Village, and I couldn't resist getting as...

Update: Thoughts on Winnebago's Purchase of Newmar -- 9/17/19

(NOTE: I originally posted this on the RV Geeks website as well as IRV2 Newmar Owners Forum in response to a question from a potential buyer of a new Newmar, now that the company has been sold to Winnebago.)

According to early news reports, Newmar will continue to operate as an independent brand under the Winnebago...

Update: Mt Rushmore & the Black Hills -- 9/12/19

We just finished spending several days in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, camped in the shadow of Mt Rushmore.

If you've never been to this part of the world, you are definitely in for a treat. The scenery is epic, and there's a lot to do; so much so, I think we hardly scratched the surface.

It...

Update: Sioux Falls - Stroll, Shop, Sup -- 9/8/19

Downtown Sioux Falls did not disappoint - it is definitely worth your time to visit.

Most of what you can see, buy or eat is located on (or adjoins) Phillips Avenue, so that's where you want to head. Most of the shops open at 10 AM and the restaurants at 11 AM. If you get there early enough, metered street parking will be available...
