We are totally new RVers, who are young recently retired, fun, adventurous couple, who live at The Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert and also have a summer ocean front beach condo that we go back and forth between winter and summer. We just bought a 2020 Newmar Dutch Star 4081, with every bell and whistles you could possibly add.

We are planning our first trip from Palm Desert, California to Naples, Florida on April 2, 2021 to play in the U.S. Open Pickleball Championship. We are avid golfers, pickleball and tennis players, who love to travel and meet other golfers, tennis and pickleball players all over the World. We’re also gold medal winners in the U.S. National Pickleball Championships. We’re playing in the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships, April 18 - April 25, 2021 in hopes of some more medals.

After the U.S. Open, we want go to Keys West to stay a few nights and then head up north all the way to Nashville. Then we plan on heading back west to California, with a stop for a few days in New Orleans, Sedona, AZ., and then off to Las Vegas for the Mid-Western Regional Championships, May 20-22, 2021 to defend our back to back, two-time gold medal winners in a row.

We plan on blogging our entire trip with hopefully some fun experiences and some not so fun disasters that we can only laugh about, as we have many great laughs, as nothing ever seems gets us down on life. Life is way too short to sweat the small stuff. Remember, things could always be worse and some people have it way worse than you and I. My saying has always been, “Live your life to the fullest today, because we are never promised tomorrow”.

Stay tuned for the next blog. Stay safe.

We decided to do a couple of overnighters to try to familiarize us with this beast of a coach. So this past Wednesday we went to the dealership to pick up our coach and do our PDI walk through. We noticed the engine dash had some engine faults and showed that the gas was empty even though it was full. They promised that someone would be there at 9 am to clear the faults. Even though we weren’t happy that the coach was not ready to go after they had it for three weeks to do the PDI, but we were not going to let this get us down. We took the coach home so we could load it up for our two quick trips starting tomorrow.

So the next morning we were all set to leave and bring the coach back to get the engine codes at 9am. As we were pulling out from our curb in Palm Desert, I needed to swing way left to avoid hitting low tree branches. As I swung the front end to the left, I completely forgot that the rear tag axle turns the opposite direction. As I continued driving dumb, fat and happy, Valerie calls me who is driving behind me and says I took out the mail boxes. I laughed and blew it off and said to her that she is just fu*kin with me and nothing is going to ruin our mini vacation. Then about 3 minutes later, reality sunk in as my phone beep. Valerie had sent me a picture of our downed mailbox. Errggghhhhhh

The rest of the way driving to the dealership I must admit I was anticipating that the whole side was caved in and I was feeling really down and mad at myself. Once we got there I ran to the back and to my surprise there was only a few paint scratches and no body damage. Luckily there was a mobile guy there working on another coach. I asked for him to give me a rough estimate on how much to repaint the scratches on the coach. Well, 1600 hundred dollars was roughly the price. Wow, not a great start to our trip, but lesson learned on the rear tags wheel turning. Won’t do that again. Lol

After a few hours of waiting, they still couldn’t clear the faults which one showed the gas tank empty even though they went and filled it up again in hopes of clearing itself. They ended up saying that it was the fuel sending unit that needs to be replaced. They were able to clear the other fault which was a DEF fault. Unfortunately, we were suppose to be leaving to take both the coach and our new Jeep where we bought the tow bar from and we were already 3 hours late for that appointment. We left knowing we had to return the coach after our short trips. Not happy, but what are you going to do. We both just laughed and said our fun saying, “you just can’t make this **** up”. Lol

We headed out to Westminster to put together the coach and the Jeep and learn how to hook up and unhook. It was actually way easier than we both thought. The installer, Dave was awesome. He even gave us a tip on staying hydrated and told us about pickle juice. Then it turned to Jameson and pickle juice with some funny stories. Well, what he didn’t know about us, “don’t tempt us with a good time! Stay tuned for our own Jameson/pickle juice stories, no doubt!

We headed to the Garden Grove Elks Lodge RV lot. Once there we set everything out and reorganized the storage both inside and underneath. We had a great night when my daughter Ashley and her husband Mikhal brought over the granddaughter, Reagen and we all went out for a nice dinner. Everything was great at dinner until just after we sat down, the fire alarm went off. 5 minutes later, 10 minutes later, 30 minutes later, it was still going on. We couldn’t even hear ourselves talk it was so loud. The baby started to get fussy because if the piercing noice. After an hour of hearing this, we asked for the bill. He hurried out of there disappointed that our family dinner was ruined. Like we say, “you just can’t make this **** up”. LoL

The following day (Friday) we ran errands and went to our Home in Huntington Beach to load up the electric bikes for our Florida trip into the Jeep. Later that night we met up with Valerie’s brother, Scott and his wife Jocelyn and had a nice dinner at the Elks Lodge.

The following day (Saturday) we packed up and headed home to the desert towing our new Jeep which made our total length 71 feet. Wholly cow! The coach drive incredible and you couldn’t even tell we were towing.

We got home with no further incidents. We unloaded a few things and prepped the rig for our next two day trip with 4 other friend to the Borrego Springs RV resort, Sunday and Monday night.

Stayed tuned for more of our adventures.
