Long, long ago...

...I started this blog. For some reason, probably sheer laziness, I stopped writing, and I have actually missed writing.
I'm back at Gila Bend, back home, it seems. I have so many friends here that GB now seems to be my winter home. After this horrid winter in Virginia, it is good to be where there is warm sunshine. Also, back and knee problems have forced me to stay close to the RV, and my dear, good friends have seen to it that I am cared for.
I've probably written this in the past, but I cannot imagine life without friends. Family is good, but they are very busy with their own lives, and I hate to be the needy mom and grandmother. My friends are living the same lifestyle that I am. They are older, retired, creaky and slow like me.
They understand when I don't want to be on the go, and they check in on me daily if they don't see me out and about.
I have a West Coast family of friends, a mid-America family of friends, and an East Coast family of friends. I know that no matter where I am or what I need, there is someone within a day's drive that I can count on for whatever.
Last May, when I left Gila Bend, the temperature was 112*. I headed due north on I-17 and got to Coconino National Park. There I stayed 16 days and met some interesting people. One gal was living in her pick-up truck where she had a bed and a TV. She went into Cottonwood, AZ, every morning for breakfast and lunch at the Senior Center. She then went to several thrift shops and volunteered her time to help "the needy." She returned to the camp every evening and regaled me with her escapades during the day.
A man and his 10 yo daughter were 'living' there until his time at Arcosanti came up. That is an interesting place with an interesting concept. It is a community north of Phoenix where people go to live and give of their services to make the community run. After googling 'Arcosanti', I realized that some people apparently thrive on that kind of living, but it is too regimented for me. I've earned the right to go to bed, get up, eat, be active, or do nothing as I please. I am an expert at doing nothing, could give lessons on it--except that then that would be doing something.

Enjoyed you post...sounds like we are very similar. I haven't been on this iRV2 a lot lately. I had to laugh when I read your "older, retired, creaky and slow like me". That's so true for me!. What do travel in? How do you compensate for your knee problems? Regards, Tricia/NWlambear

Hi, Tricia. I am in a 38-ft. Expedition. As for the knees, I use my BICEPS (LOL) to help haul me out of and into the MH. I, also, do a lot of moaning and groaning and cursing. Don't suppose that helps the pain, but it sure helps my disposition. Thanks for commenting. I love to see responses to my blogs. Anne
