Yellowstone Adventure

Hello.

As I start this blog, it's Friday June 16th, 2017. Our home is in extreme Southeastern Alabama, just 90 miles north of Panama City Beach, Florida.

I need to start from the beginning, so here goes.

A very good friend of mine is soon set to retire, after many years as a civil servant at a nearby military base.

His wish is to take a long trip on his new Motorhome as a gift to himself, and his darling wife. He asked me if the wife and I would "please come along." I jumped at the invitation.

With having taken one trip of considerable length just two years ago, I am tasked with the pre-planning of this trip. A task, I've gladly taken on.

My first thought was to get everyone's ideas on where we might like to visit. The list is varied as you might imagine, and includes some far away destinations.

Places like Branson, MO are close enough we could travel to and from in a week's time, and see most of the attractions. It was one of the first places mentioned. On the list it went.

More were added, such as:
Nashville, TN
Graceland in Memphis, TN
St Louis, MO
Mount Rushmore
Yellowstone National Park
Redwood Forest
Salt Lake City, UT
Los Angeles
Las Vegas
Grand Canyon
Flintstone Village
OK Corral in Tombstone, AZ
Riverwalk in San Antonio, TX

From San Antonio, a place where I have made several RV trips, we would make our way back home.

So far, the trip is nearly 7,000 miles long. It will take a minimum of 46 days with only 5 stops being one night stays.

I am using the Good Sam trip planner, for two reasons. One, I can be reasonably sure the route we will take will accommodate Motorhomes of our heighth. Two, because along the journey being plotted, the Good Sam app helps me to find RV parks. Whether it's a Good Sam park or not.

I'll keep updating this blog as time passes, and add pictures as well. I hope that you gain some enjoyment, and maybe interact with me as I go through the process of planning, and then eventually traveling on the wonderful adventure.

God bless,
Klell

We have been from Key West Florida, to Alaska.
We have been from St. Anthony Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia.
You MUST go to Alaska with a stop-over in Watson Lake in the Yukon. You must read the history of the lonesome American soldier who posted the "first" sign.

As the time nears, some "adjustments" have been made to the itinerary. Branson,MO is no longer on the list. Instead we will start in Pigeon Forge, TN swing over to Nashville, then on to Graceland in Memphis. All of these RV sites have been reserved in advance.

From there, we will go to the St Louis area, and spend a few days there. Visit with family that lives in St Charles. Good place to rest, and double checking everything before the move northward toward Sioux City, and then westward to Mt Rushmore.

Thanks to all who are following, and commenting. The excitement is really starting build. In 2 weeks, we start our adventure.

Tomorrow our adventure begins. We will travel a few short miles to Montgomery, AL and stay at Capital City RV Park. We have stayed here before. It's nice. I will post pictures here.

A holiday dinner with my two brothers, and my sister, along with their spouses at the RV park with our friends is on tap. Looking forward to visiting with them, and getting our big adventure started.

Those of you who are believers in the power of prayer, I am asking that you say a little prayer for us along with our families we are leaving behind. Hoping everyone stays healthy, and we can have a safe and wonderful trip. Thanks in advance.

Okay folks! The journey has begun. With changes to the itinerary as we travel. With the smoke and air quality problems of the upper NW part of the US, we will have to wait to see Redwoods NP,Mt Rushmore, and Yellowstone.

Luckily, we have the flexibility, we are going to Santa Fe, NM, with several stops between St Louis, MO and Santa Fe. Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.

We have been to Pigeon Forge, and are now in Nashville, TN. Pictures to follow....

We made it to Memphis, TN!

We are currently staying in the Graceland RV Park. Our ride over was wonderful. Beautiful weather the entire way. We stopped by Loretta Lynn's Ranch, and visited awhile.

I have started a post about each RV Park we visit. You can check out my reviews here: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f38/rv-pa...ml#post3797400

Unfortunately, Alaska is out of the question this time around. One day....
Thanks so much for the tip.

Today, we made it to Eureka, Missouri. Wanted to be a little closer to St Louis, although we aren't that far away. On the historic Route 66 at a KOA.
    Really like this park.

When I last posted we had been in Graceland RV Park. We traveled onto St. Louis, Missouri from Memphis.

Our choice place to stay was full because of the festivals all around St. Louis, so we stayed at the KOA in Eureka. Turns out that was a great choice.

The WiFi was great, and the park itself is really nice. Our site was shaded, so satellite TV was out, although the cable TV selection was more than adequate.

From there we traveled west to Branson, MO. Our park of choice was the Stagecoach RV Park near the Branson Belle.

It was here we found our satellite TV had developed a problem. It may have to wait until we get home to be resolved.

Branson is a destination for the entire family. Well worth your travels if you get the opportunity.

Yeah. So, this whole blogging and traveling thing, while trying to please four people and their desires to see America was quite a bit more difficult than I first thought it would be.

Many days I thought would be rest days ended up being travel days, or "off to visit" days.

In other words, I failed at the entire blog attempt. My apologies.

I will post, hopefully soon, a much better second half of our trip, and try my best for it not to become an RV park review thread.

    Thanks,
    Klell
