This is Patty and I have been RVing for 6 years now. Just about everything I now know about RVing I learned the hard way! I can look back now and laugh, but believe me it wasn’t funny at the time!
When I started RVing I was a 50 something year old widow, alone and desperate to fulfill my dream of travel, kayaking and bicycling. Being from Old School “I Am Women, Hear Me Roar”, I would not let anything/anybody stand in my way! I am going to tell about my experiences in the hope that all of you can learn and/or have a good laugh!

REALITY RVING
PACKED LIKE SARDINES
So I met my current companion/boyfriend (Bob) in March, 2016, one year after I started RVing. He was brand new to the world of RVing and I finally convinced him to go with me on a 4 day camping trip (with electric and water hookup) at a local county park. I think he was bewildered with the whole RVing thing as he stood by and watched me hook up and then drive the RV to the pull-through site.
Bob is a strapping 6’ man with broad shoulders and a large bone physique. Deep down inside I was worried about his “fit” in my six foot wide by 17 foot long FQ RV.
Well, the campsite set up and the evening meal went smoothly and soon we fell into a deep sleep both smelling like campfire smoke.
Sometime in the wee hours of the night, Bob shook me awake. He was standing the foot of my bed holding the side of his head and I could see blood seeping through his fingers. He knew I was profoundly deaf and without my hearing aids, (which I take out at night to sleep), I don’t hear much at all. He stood there waiting patiently as I quickly put on my hearing aids and jumped out of bed to help him.
He proceeded to tell me that he woke up to use the bathroom and forgot where he was. As he jumped up, he hit his head on the sharp corner side of the wardrobe cabinet. I got my first aid kit and held pressure to stop the bleeding. I remember thinking that this man is gonna “head for the hills” after we get home and I will never see him again.
That morning I taped a folded wad of paper towels over the cabinet corner and he did hit his head again. Bob held tight for the ride and we are still RVing (in a wider and longer RV with two slides). He has his limits (no Boon docking in the summer, that will be a future blog). He swears he likes the clamping thing, but I think his love for me is what keeps him RVing.
LESSON LEARNED:
Never assumed that a guest (or yourself) will be aware of sharp corners and low hanging hazards. Use foam insulation and/or pool noodle sections to cover such hazards (even outside-such as the awing supports and slide-out corners).

Well, I hope Bob's head is Okay now and after a little time to think about his first camping trips is ready to hit the road yet, again. Like you, I also were a hearing aid, called a PONTO 3, by Oticon which fits on a post on this side of my head for Bone Anchored Hearing. AKA BAHA.
I have been camping from childhood and find it hard to believe many are still unaware of just how much fun a trip into the backcountry truly is and at 70-years old I feel like a kid exploring Backroads and happier now that we have downsized to a Class B, after having two Class A's. The Smaller MH let's go deeper into the woods and explore less noticed in the backcountry.
Hope Bob, is ready to return soon to the Parks and campgrounds lots of good and friendly folks to share campsite stories. Enjoy safe travels, enjoy reading your post. On another note: If you like reading I would like to suggest a crime story set of books by Nevada Barr, She was a real National Park Ranger and writes with the backdrop of her national parks in the mix of the stories.
