Monaco RV Unveils Holiday Rambler Trip

Monaco RV LLC Introduces the Holiday Rambler Trip at the 48th Annual RV Trade Show

Monaco RV LLC welcomes the RV Industry to its 2011 exhibit

Monaco asks, "Hello ribbon of highway. Where To Next?" The "NEW" 2011 Trip is seen to the right in red.

On Tuesday afternoon I made a point of stopping over and seeing the Monaco RV LLC display. The entry to the display might I say was quite impressive. 2 curved arches formed an entry to a centerpiece display where a row of MaxxForce engines were placed on forward angled display stands. Navistar presented the MaxxForce 7, 10 and 13 engines all of which are Advanced EGR designs. The 3 engines that were shown in the display were the engines that Monaco RV will be using in all their RV platforms. The MaxxForce 7 is a 6.4L twin turbo V8 which has gained popularity with several RV OEMs. The MaxxForce 10 is a twin turbocharged 9.3L I-6 diesel engine that has a wide application in the Industry. The compact package makes it attractive for OEMs to use in a great number of vehicles. The MaxxForce 10 may produce up to 350HP with 1150 Lb/Ft of Torque. The MaxxForce 13 is being used on the largest motorhomes products in the Monaco lineup. The MaxxForce13 is a 12.4L I-6 dual turbocharged diesel that produces 450HP with 1700 Lb/Ft of Torque. The MaxxForce 13 weighs in at 2400 pounds and has a 1,200,000 mile design life.

Navistar MaxxForce13. This engine maybe used in coaches such as the 2011 Signature & Dynasty.

Navistar MaxxForce10. This engine will be used in models like the 2011 Knight & Cayman.

Navistar MaxxForce 7. This engine is used in the 2011 Vesta and Trip.

The energy that drives Monaco and Navistar to produce the MaxxForce series of engines for RV customers is ease of use, no requirement to buy a consumable emission control product while achieving EPA 2010 emissions. MaxxForce fuel injection systems deliver fuel in precision timed pulses which not only provide total combustion of the fuel but reduces the noise of the combustion down to gasoline engine levels. The in cylinder approach that Navistar has provided offers more complete combustion reducing NOx emissions, shaped combustion chambers helps break up the fuel into a finer mist, the air management system burns the fuel more slowly lowering the temperature and reducing NOx and the engine calibration continuously monitors performance to optimize the fuel air ratio reducing emissions completely in cylinder.

To the rear of engine row was a Navistar video presentation which spoke about how the new models of motorhomes were actually created from full size clay models and wind tunnel testing. A tremendous amount of CAD/CAM engineering went into design and building the new motorhomes. Earlier this year the Monaco Vesta was introduced and at the 48th Annual RV Trade Show the Holiday Rambler Trip was unveiled for the first time.

Although every model of Monaco Coach was on display I wanted to focus on the new models for the purpose of this review. Entering the display I was greeted by Ryan Lee who is the Marketing Director for Monaco Coach LLC. No introductions were necessary since I had met Ryan last year and this time I felt we were more relaxed and familiar with one another. I asked Ryan to take me around and show me the new motorhomes and we went over and started with the Vesta. Vesta is a 33 foot long front engine diesel motorhome powered by the MaxxForce 7 AEGR EPA 2010 engine of 260HP with 660 Lb/Ft of Torque which is output to an Allison 2500MH 6-Speed transmission. The vehicle is stopped by 4 wheel air brake ABS and the Roadmaster chassis features an air leveling system.

The cockpit of the Monaco Vesta and the Holiday Rambler Trip both share the same ergonomic driving station and features an iPod dock. This vehilce drives more like a car that a class A RV motorhome. The Arens push button shifter is located in the center of the dash.

Fully Vertically Integrated the Vesta chassis is made by RoadMaster, powered by Navistar engines and built in Coburg, OR. The Vesta has a GVWR of 29,000 and a GCWR of 33,000. The overall length of the motorhome is 33”9” with a wheelbase of 220 inches. The 80” interior height gives the occupants a good sense of open overhead space and the interior of the vehicle is by no means small. The holding tanks are adequate providing 60 gray, 46 black and 50 fresh. The fuel tank holds 51 gallons via a single fill. The Vesta features 255 70R 22.5 LRH tires. The Vesta has a 7,000 tow rating and is equipped with a hitch that will handle the weight. Bright wheel covers are standard over steel wheels or polished aluminum wheels are available.

The galley features of the Vesta and Trip feature a hard surface counter top and tile applied to the wall surfaces.

A wrap around booth dinette can comfortably accomodate dinner guests. Seating surfaces are Ultraleather. A full length Ultraleather couch is standard forward of the dinette.

The bedroom features a rear headboard and a flat panel wide screen TV is mounted in the upper corner on the left front wall. The space features hard surface night stand tops, overhead storage and side shirt closets.

The counterpart of the Vesta is the newly introduced Holiday Rambler Trip. As it was described to me the Trip is a dressed down copy of the Vesta that does not compromise on performance. For example the awning on the Vesta is integrated into the body work whereas the awning on the Trip is conventionally mounted on the side of the motorhome. There are other features similar to this that control the cost of the Trip and lowers the price point. The Trip shares the Roadmaster chassis and is powered by the same combination of engine and transmission. Other features that are in common with Vesta are the air brakes and air leveling. The weights and loading specifications including holding tanks and tow capability are the same as Vesta. Trip is being marketed as big fun at an affordable price tag. On the Trip you can expect as much as 161 cu ft of storage space.

Details of the cavernous rear pass through storage compartment. The shore power cord is accessed from the left side and passes through the floor.

Ryan Lee the Marketing Director of Monaco Coach LLC gave us the guided tour of the new Holiday Rambler Trip and the Monaco Vesta.

Thanks Driver for posting so much information and especially the great photos. As a fan of shorter motorhomes and a fan of Monaco I'm glad to see them putting as much thought and care into building really creative products in that size.

Wonder what the MSRP will be? Right now their only competition for short wheelbase but higher-end Class A diesels is really the new Tiffin Breeze, right?

There's one more Class A out there with a front engine MaxxForce7; the Serrano which is built on the Workhorse W20D.

Personally I like the nose art on the Trip more than the Vesta but that's just preference.

Really disappointed in front ends on these coaches, most homely front end ever. Hope the rest of the line looks better, they went from one of the nicest looking coaches to the worst.
    Otherwise, they look very nice.

The Damon Avanti was another competitor. Alas, the Avanti and the Trip/Vesta have been axed for 2013
