Hey, RonNBama. I was missed??

This past month has found me and Miss Gogo leaving the coast and heading eastward via Crater Lake and into Idaho. I have simply exhausted my supply of superlatives and hyperbole. Crater Lake is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The Serengeti at dawn in a hot air balloon has been denigrated to second place. As we drove around the lake, each stopping place seemed more beautiful than the last.

Being alone has its advantages. I am able to stop and go on a whim, lingering as long as I want at any one spot with no one whining about being bored or wanting to keep going. My pooch is the perfect traveling companion. Whatever I do is fine with her. So, driving around the lake took the better part of a day because when I see something captivating, I can sit and look as long as I want--and I did.

We eventually headed for friends in Idaho where we spent nearly 4 weeks because of medical problems that are now resolved. Southern Idaho is not conducive to superlatives. Thank goodness, my friend supplied me with books on audio because the scenery between Nampa and Shelley leaves something to be desired.

The first night out of Nampa on the way to Stanley found me in Lowman where there seems to be nothing but a lodge and restaurant. I like to get off the road by 4pm, and, as I knew I was still an hour or more from Stanley, I stopped at the lodge and asked if there was any place to park the RV for the night. The manager very kindly directed me to a freshly mown hayfield where Gogo and I spent a most peaceful and quiet night. She loved being able to run free in the open field.

The next day I was not feeling too swift, so after driving about 2 hours I pulled into a river access for fishermen, set down the levelers, opened the slides and hunkered for the rest of the day and night. I kept expecting someone to come by and tell me to move on, but no one did. Again Gogo was allowed to run free--she spent a great deal of time running up and down the Snake River; at this point it is only about 12 feet wide. She refuses to get into water, but does love to run up and down the water's edge.

Today we got to Shelley where there are more friends. Since I had to spend so much time in Nampa, I'm running behind my somewhat tentative schedule and won't get to stay here as long as I wanted. After some RV maintenance and pickup truck maintenance, I plan to head north and east to Yellowstone and the Tetons. I'm beginning to get antsy about cold weather and bad roads.
