Meandering....

Posted 08-07-2009 at 10:19 PM by geaugeausmom

Growing up in hot, dry Texas (but how I do love that place!) gave me a hunger for lush green mountains. I have spent the past 30+ years in the Applachian region of Virginia and love its lush, green beauty.

The past couple of months I have been traveling America's great northwest and have seen some of the most stupendous beauty. From northwestern Arizona, skipping desolate southwestern Nevada, and right through northern California and up the coast, I have just been in constant awe. The mountains of the east are elegant and lovely; the mountains of the west and northwest are rugged and majestic and breath-taking.

Driving north on Route 1, AKA Pacific Coast Highway, has been the highlight of my summer. The lovely, calm, foggy Pacific Ocean with its bays and inlets and rocks on the left side and the incredible cliffs and foliage on the right side make me want a chauffeur so that I can SEE everything. I poke along well below the speed limit, pulling into turn-outs every few minutes to let the hurriers pass, many times unable to get up to the posted speed-limit of 20 mph because I stop so often and the up-grades are too steep for my big rig to pick up speed. That's OK. I'm in no hurry to be anyplace.

These are the days that I find life to be just so grand.
