Return trip

Posted 01-31-2021 at 12:02 AM by HarryStone

Sorry this has taken so long to write. On our return, I made several mistakes, one of which could have been bad. When packing up for the return at the KOA in Banning, I reminded myself to get propane. And, as I was disconnecting the water line, I thought "maybe I should check the fresh water tank". Nah, It'll be ok. Got everything packed and dropped the rig off the jacks, hooked up the dolly and loaded the car. Got in the rig and drove out, completely forgetting about the propane. Doh! Got on the road and headed east on 40, just like we came in on, and the DW said "I'd like to go home a different way." I thought, the only other way is thru Flagstaff, not good this time of year, but oh well. Got to Phoenix, and our son said he'd like to have a whopper. So, I looked for a BK, but couldn't find one that was accessible with our MH. Kept looking and finally found one on the west side of Phoenix on the bypass. BTW, I had put a 5 star tune on the rig before we left, and it performed great. Didn't downshift into 3rd immediately, and actually, I was able to pull some hills without it downshifting at all, and the mileage was great. I only checked once, on the way out, but it was 8, pulling our car. Got to Flagstaff about 8 PM, and it was cold. Called Walmart, and they didn't allow parking, so onward east. Someone used the toilet and said "there's no water." Crap! I messed that up. Shoulda checked before we left. Had to drive to Winslow, and actually stopped at the Flying J for the night, instead of Walmart. Checked the propane, because, I forgot to fill it before we left, and it was empty!!! We were blessed to be at a Flying J, because they had both water and propane. It was about 18 degrees trying to put water in the tank, but I got it, as the attendant was putting the propane in. Will finish the story next entry.
