The Rest of the Story

The Rest Of The Story
Back in Michigan and have enjoyed the summer, what we have had of it since we spent 6 weeks in the Arizona heat.

A week after getting home we spent 4 days sitting with a 2 and 4 year old that have much more energy than we do. It was great to spend the time but now we realize that we are a little older than they are.

First trip out since returning was to Tawas Point SP which we both love. Each day was a ½ mile walk out to the point along the beach and back. Nothing more relaxing that walking with your partner and only hearing her and the waves on the shore. Got a lot of exercise that we missed when we were in the heat of Arizona. Michigan is the greatest variety of weather for everywhere we’ve been.

On the trip out I did find out that one of the bay doors does not always latch when it is closed. We were traveling north on I-75 when a pickup driver waved at me on the passenger side and I being friendly waved back. Then I told Mary to see if she knew him since he was still waving. Next I looked in the side mirror and found a bay door sticking out at 90 degrees. Long story short we got to the edge just before a construction zone. The bay that opened was where I had put the firewood. I still don’t know how many, could not have been more than 2 or 3, pieces of wood fell out onto the road. Hope no one got hurt in our mess.

Closed the door and we were on our way.

Now that we have been home for 3 weeks we are ready to go again. I have a conference in Arcadia, MI and 3 couple from church camp with us for the week while I go to the conference for 2 ½ days and another guy goes golfing for 2 days. Women keep each other entertained until we get back and join them. With the weather turning wet we decided to not go to the next campground and disc golf. It was time to head home and try to get back into the groove.

Back into the groove lasted a week when we went to a HRRVC Chapter 10M 3 day visit to Hidden Ridge RV Park south of Grand Rapids. Great park but more than we will be normally using. The cost was good due to the large group but on our own it will be too much for a regular diet. The park however was fantastic. They had any and everything you might want. Our time with people we had met in May was also very good. Too bad we don’t have a lot in common with them as most of them have been friends for a long time.

It’s now Halloween and winter is approaching. We’ve seen the last of 65 degree days last week and flurries are predicted in the next week. It really seems too soon as the leaves are still on most of the trees in the sub.

My cactus however is loving the weather. I’ve had to bring it in and set up a light for it since we don’t get a lot of sun in Michigan during the winter. Having never grown cacti I really do not know what I’m doing and the internet does not help much since I’m in the wrong climate. I got the four cacti to remind us of the adventure of summer 2017.

I originally thought the one plant was getting flowers but it turned out they were new pods. We had replanted them in a proper pot with drainage hole in the bottom and I monitor the water amounts weekly so that it gets watered two weeks after the meter shows no water in the soil. I was then hoping to keep them alive until spring.

Spring has not come, winter is not even here yet and the plant is springing to life. The two photos show our new pot, one with more of a southwester coloring to it and 4 new pads growing on the Johnsons Hybrid. I think this means that I am doing something right. Wonder what will happen next.

This ends the 2017 trips for us but we will be starting again with Florida, Mississippi, Arizona, and Indiana as a trip in the early spring/summer.
