9 Weeks till GC 1.2

Posted 02-07-2015 at 10:58 PM by PushedAround

Is it only me, or is time flying by for you too? We just got back from Key West and I have 9 weeks to get everything together for the upcoming get together in Arkansas (GC 1.2). I had to re-winterize Harvey (uhg) but this time I used compressed air and just filled the traps with RV antifreeze, so it will be much easier to turn everything back on. I have gone both ways (antifreeze or blow out the lines) and with a full flow fitting and the big compressor I have, I just set the regulator to 60 lbs and let her rip. I have plenty of volume and the lines blow clean after a few minutes, so I think that this is the way to go from now on.

As for upcoming preparations, I just finished bottling the Russian Imperial Stout for GC 1.2, and now I want to get a nice Pilsner going. Think that 4 cases of beer will be enough? I also decided that having a gas stove top right in the middle of the counter was really cramping our kitchen. Add to that the fact that either us or the dogs were knocking the burners on accidently (happened 4 times) and I have had enough. I ordered a True Induction Dual Burner inset cooktop which sits flush on the counter and will really open up the work space. I need to install it before we go away. Well that's all for now. Will report on my progress in a few weeks.

I wish the RV companies would hire someone who actually cooks to design the galley. Seems nearly all of them have but 1ft on each side of the stove and sink when both are uncovered.

Gas stove is a must for us. I like the instant heat control. But I understand the issue with the knobs.

You know the rules, you talk about a mod you have to post pix.

You brew your own beer? Wish I had known you when I was living in the Poconos.

Another RVer from PA, great! Yeah, I do brew my own beer, plus drink a lot of others. My kids got me a kit a few years ago and everything that I brew seems to turn out pretty good. I am starting to experiment and have a Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout going right now. Next up will be a Scotch Ale, probably fortified with a little Bourbon.

As far as the stove goes, the new induction tops really are instant heat. I tested mine on medium and had water boiling in 150 seconds. I am told that on high its more like 90. As for the mod, it's not done yet. See my next blog.
