BEWITCHING OF A HITCHING (4th Blog)

Posted 07-08-2019 at 10:00 AM by Patty1161 (Reality RVing)

As all good things must come to an end, on day five, we had to check out of our campsite by noon. I had everything packed up by 10am and all that was left to do was hitch up. Easier said than done! No matter what I tried, the coupler latch would not engage.
After sometime, I asked the next door RV camper if he could help me. The gentlemen tried over and over. While scratching his head, he stated that he had been RVing for years and had never seen a problem like this! While we both...

RV Projects: Fixing a Goof on the Roof -- 7/7/2019

When we first got our NewAire, the rearview camera was flakey; it kept cutting in and out. With the DW watching the monitor, I climbed up the rear of the coach and jiggled the wiring around the camera itself. Sure enough, we determined there was a gamey wiring connection.

I got up on the roof and found that the wiring junction between...

RV Projects: Converting Fluorescents to LED Strip Lights -- 7/2/2019

All our planned RV projects have been completed -- and then some. The first project was conversion of our fluorescent galley lights to extra-bright LED strip lights.

If you have an RV that's more than a few years old, you probably have 12V DC fluorescent fixtures with replaceable tube bulbs. Ugh. I have converted...

Update: It's RV Project Time! -- 6/16/2019

It's finally here: RV project time.

Two weeks of blood, sweat, and tears - a veritable labor of love.

We are house/dog/chicken sitting for the next two weeks. That means we can park the NewAire in our kid's RV-friendly driveway and work through a list of projects that have been lining up for months.

So...

Update: Am I seeing Double? Again? -- 6/6/2019

I recently took my 2001 NewAire in for service at my regular shop: Scott's RV Truck and Auto in Rockford, Illinois. I can't say enough good about these folks, and apparently the word has gotten around, cause what should show up while mine was in but another NewAire!

Under the Night Skies.

Posted 06-03-2019 at 11:52 AM by van-gogh

My first ever Blogg, Most all of my life my family have been campers. At about 7 or 8-years old I sleep on the ground under the beautiful night sky. There I was with my father, sleeping like a real cowboy on the ground.

Back then in the 1950s, I was a big fan of western movies and TV shows which came along in the 1960s, when we got our first inside TV set. During the 1950s I was a big fan of radio westerns, like GUN Smoke, which I can hear today on the Serius Radio-148, by satellite....

Trip to Fort Collins

Posted 05-29-2019 at 03:47 PM by MEWright

We left Austin with no major issues headed to Amarillo TX. Made it away from the house without forgetting anything. Planed on boondocking in a Walmart in Amarillo TX. My brother and I switching drivers, wife and daughter riding shotgun and co-co pilot respectively. About an hour out of Amarillo, my lead co pilot informs us that “we” have located a RV park on I40 that had after hours check in, spots open and we would not be boondocking at Walmart, rather we would be at Oasis RV Park for 59ish dollars...

Its time to hit the road, making last minute repairs/service

Posted 05-12-2019 at 10:35 AM by MEWright
Updated 05-12-2019 at 07:55 PM by MEWright (added new information)

Last year before we put her away for the season we had a few items that needed repairs and in true fashion, I put the off until 2 days before we leave for Colorado for a week.
1. Level jack alarm would sound when turning ,,, Low fluid easy fix. Check and done
2. On the way home on our last trip we drug the front nose on a low driveway. No body damage but we broke the gennie latch clean off.

After looking into many different options I decided...

REALITY RVING - RV ROLLING (3rd Blog)

Posted 05-05-2019 at 07:48 AM by Patty1161 (Reality RVing)

So now my sister and I are on the third day of our first RV camping trip. Our campsite pad was pitched at a slightly downhill angle, but I wasn’t worried because my RV bubble levelers indicated I was perfectly level.
My sister was already up and about when I groggily got out of bed and started my coffee. Once again I see my sister looking at me with a worried look on her face while wringing her hands. She proceeded to tell me that she thinks we are slowly rolling downhill. When I asked...

Update: No Awning = No Problem -- 5/2/2019

Our 2001 NewAire came without a coach-mounted awning. Fortunately for us, that's what we wanted (or didn't, as the case may be). While there are original NewAires out there equipped with coach-mounted awnings, those we've seen appear to be mounted a bit cattywampus. This is likely due to the coach's unusual lines.

Instead of an awning,...

REALITY RV - POP GOES THE WEASEL (2nd Blog)

Posted 04-28-2019 at 07:18 AM by Patty1161 (Reality RVing)

Okay so now my sister and I survived our first RV towing trip and are all setup at our beautifully paved and deeply wooded site with water/electric hookup. During check-in the desk attendant had mentioned several times about bear awareness and safety precautions. I made special efforts to hide my concerns because I didn’t want to alarm my sister, but deep inside I was a little scared. Returning from going out to dinner, I opened a bottle of bubbly Moscato and we settled down to watch “The Great...

Yes, I have been absent from the Blog scene

For those that have been following my musings and rantings I thank you and I apologize for my absence. It started innocent enough. One of our winter snowbird trips had very poor internet connection. After a month of connections so poor I could not get email except for going to Mcdonalds or the library I got out of the habit. My regular blog Whelans on the road | Blog | RV Travel | Snowbirds | Motorhome had an off line ability and I focused on that. My bad... Anyway I am back and hope to stay...

Starting off with a BANG!

Posted 04-20-2019 at 02:03 PM by Patty1161 (Reality RVing)

My very first RV trip started off with a BANG, literally! With my sister (unwillingly) and the 17FQ Viking RV in tow, I pulled out of my driveway and onto the road feeling ever so smug with the tune of “I am women, Hear Me Roar” singing in my head. Suddenly, I heard a loud bang and a scraping sound that ended with a bump to my truck’s back end. We both jumped out thinking we had been hit by another car, only to find the RV unhitched and sitting half on the road and shoulder.
My township’s...
