Wow, some excitement late yesterday. I was walking Abby for her long evening walk and on the way back, I could hear shooting near the boat ramp. Semi-automatic pistol, 20 to 30 rounds was being fired. I put in a call to the two law enforcement officers and they were both working illegal hunters on other refuges.

I saw the car pulled up into a hiking trail and took a photo of the license. As I walked away, three guys were coming back toward the car. I hurried Abby on and got down...

thermostat

Posted 10-07-2013 at 02:56 PM by ONEHOSS

Thanks for the info.

My rig has to have a thermostat that supports a two stage basement heat pump and a gas furnace. The original thermostat has been updated to an all digital so I decided to go ahead and order one from Winnebagoparts.com.

Thanks, Onehoss

Well we have a holiday now with the government shut down. First time I have been laid off from a non-paying job.

The National Wildlife Refuge is closed to the public. The refuge manager and one other law enforcement officer are considered essential personnel and are here. Everyone else is furloughed for now. We get to keep our site here and are now allowed to do any work on the refuge. We have a gate key and come and go as we please.

At least anther host couple came...

Well yesterday we experienced the great flood. We were out for about 3 hours and came back to water running out of the front part of the RV. Luckily the maintenance guys fro the refuge were working on the pad next to ours and spotted the water and shut off the faucet.

The problem is the Aqua Magic Style Plus toilet water valve did not shut off and overflowed the bowl. It started to hang up on the pedal and my wife forgot to lift up and make sure it shuts off.

The parts...

I <3 Local Business

Posted 09-23-2013 at 10:02 PM by StumpyWilson (Our Grand Adventure)

I enter the Big Shiny Name Store, and a sales guy asks me if I need some help.

"Yeah, I'm here for a hitch," I say, "Specifically a B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch." I quietly thank Google for helping me identify the thing. Until recently, I didn't know there was a difference between a gooseneck and a 5th wheel. Without Google, I would not know a kingpin from a saddle. It is only by the power of the internet that I am able to identify the thingiedoober my truck...

Bring it.

Posted 09-23-2013 at 09:13 PM by StumpyWilson (Our Grand Adventure)

"Why not get an RV?"

We have never in our lives owned a camper. We do not know people who own campers. We stay in Marriotts. We do not camp. But, we are selling the house. Mother is retired, I am between jobs, and the kids are not yet in school. Why not get an RV?

We trade in the 2012 Chevy Cruze (39.6 mpg) for a 2004 Ford F350 (17.5 mpg). We browse dealerships and spend a Saturday at an RV show. We scour the classifieds. We find a good deal on a 1998 Prowler

Hellwig Springs added to old Class C

Posted 09-18-2013 at 11:37 AM by meisinger

Our 96 Four Winds 5000 was sagging in the back so much that the factory springs were bent like a frown rather than a smile. They weren't broken, just old and the RV is usually loaded right up to the limit. I decided to add some reinforcing Hellwig springs. I got the LP-35 set which adds 3500 extra pounds of lift on each side. It was a fairly simple job, although two of the mounting kit brackets weren't quite long enough. Hellwig immediately sent out a longer set. Here are a few tips:1) Do...

Wow, still waiting on cooler weather.

For the most part, the visitors here are pretty neat...BUT, seems the smokers think the world is their ash tray...butts every where. Also the slobs that drink the Tall-boy beers never find the trash can..just pitch it out on the parking lot.. Also seems like the Kool smokers never put their wrappers in the trash...Mostly what I find on the ground.

The refuge has a big open house on October 19...free fish fry, crafts, face painting,...

Words and Pics Just Can't Do It Justice

Posted 09-09-2013 at 12:17 PM by FOSJ

It's been 2 weeks since my 60th birthday and 2-month wedding anniversary. And just in case you're wondering, being old and married is going OK!

*****Editor's Note***** After 'proofing the blog, Joan looks at me and says "So it's just OK?" Now I know I put an exclamation point after OK, but evidently that's not enough....so....

The first 2 months of married life have been unbelievable. It's hard to describe what it's been like. Words just can't express what...

Green home renovation techniques

Posted 09-06-2013 at 12:19 AM by renavovada

Some people avoid renovation or remodeling because of the initial cost or because they don’t feel they can justify the expense. However, there are some projects that make the cost worth it in the long run. Editors of The Environmental Magazine said, “Despite the up front costs [of renovation], by choosing materials and strategies that will lower utility bills and reduce maintenance and replacement costs [they can save money] moving forward.”
