I'm Givin' Her All She's Got Captain! If I Push It Any Harder the Whole Thing's Gonna

Posted 10-23-2012 at 09:52 PM by FOSJ

Joan and I finished our first workamping job on Monday the 8th and headed out for a few weeks of relaxation before reporting to Amazon in Fernley Nevada.

We headed out east through the Columbia River Gorge stopping at Emigrant Springs State Park just east of Pendelton. This was the second Oregon State Park in which we've camped and one of several that we've driven through or visited. I've got to say that the Oregon State Parks we've seen are excellent facilities. In speaking with...

Why Buy A Used RV?

Posted 10-18-2012 at 12:22 PM by mmartinkus

When purchasing an RV the question each buyer faces is whether to buy new or used. If what you are expecting with your decision is the best overall deal the hunt will be among the "Previously Enjoyed" recreational vehicles and here's why:
People trade in their units for a number of different reasons...newer or improved equipment, TV's , Heating systems etc., room slides, bigger or more efficient engine, more room, smaller size, the list is long and varied but the main compulsion...

New Hi-Density Mattress Topper Saves the Month!

Posted 10-16-2012 at 08:40 AM by DriVer (Welcome To My Blog!)
Updated 10-16-2012 at 09:52 AM by DriVer

Although we have what can be considered a big step up from the OEM RV mattress in our motorhome, we were beginning to get that achy back syndrome when getting up in the morning. It was getting to be no fun so to improve our comfort we attempted a few mattress pad products on the market with little to no benefit in the long run.

We initially purchased a mattress pad from Camping World and we tried that for a while but in time it was more of the same discomfort. The pad came out of a...

R.v. Suburban furnace repair

Posted 10-13-2012 at 11:40 AM by LRigdon

SF 30 F Fan don’t run diagnosis’

When my furnace fan wouldn’t run, I checked to make sure the L.P. gas supply was sufficient and checked for gas leaks making sure the gas pressure is good. They were good. This eliminated the gas as a problem. Next, I went to the heating unit. I used my multi-meter on VDC. I checked the #12 yellow with black probe in the wire nut and the red probe in the wire nut of the #12 red wires. You should get a reading of 13 plus volts. If you do your voltage...

New Koni FSD Shocks and Sumo Springs for "Dory"

Posted 10-13-2012 at 07:57 AM by johnp77777
Updated 10-13-2012 at 08:57 AM by johnp77777 (Clarification)

I am the 2nd owner of a 33' 2003 Southwind MH (affectionately named Dory). 2002 GM Workhorse W22 chassis. It only had 22k miles when I bought it a couple years ago and now I'm at 26K. Very well maintained by the previous owners. The one problem I had was a huge amount of sway at low speeds (speed bumps, turns, etc) and porpoising on the highway at high speeds. Since I traded up from a much older class A, I thought this was the nature of the beast with something this size....

Transmission Service...When to do it

Posted 10-09-2012 at 11:49 AM by mmartinkus

If you are undecided about whether or not you should service your transmission or when to service it consider this: Transmission failure is mostly attributed to fluid failure. Mechanical parts failure is in the minority when blame is laid. The breakdown and failure of transmission fluid is precipitated by two elements...contaminants and heat with heat winning the race for worst/biggest contributor.
Transmission temperatures run generally in the same range as engine temperature until put under

And the Answer Is......"We're Going to Hell!"

Posted 10-08-2012 at 12:44 AM by FOSJ

Monday will be 5 Months, 3 weeks and 4 days since we arrived in Estacada, Oregon. Even though the work has slowed down quite a bit in the last few weeks, our time here has really flown by. Of the 17 campgrounds along the Clackamas River, only 4 are still open; and 3 of those will close next weekend. On Monday I've been asked to assist the maintenance supervisor close and shutter a 2-story cabin. Monday will be our last day working in Mt Hood National Forest this season.

This season...

An Indecent Proposal?

Posted 10-08-2012 at 12:41 AM by FOSJ

We've been burning the candle at both ends this week. Our workweek started early on Sunday as we were shifting days to allow us to take more time off with Jim and Debbie. The work week flew by filled with the various tasks it takes to maintain the campgrounds.

We hiked the 1.5 miles up to Bagby Hot Springs on Monday taking the 'mule' with us. The mule is a DR Hauler, motorized wheelbarrow used to move materials and supplies along the narrow trails in the forest. Our Operations Manager,...

Preventing Leaks

Posted 10-02-2012 at 11:05 AM by mmartinkus

Just about everyone who owns any type of RV has been told that they must periodically reseal all the areas on or near their roof to protect against potential leaks. There is another source that is just as likely to cause problem leaks as those seams and vents though and that is the air conditioners if they are roof mounted. Those A/C units sit on top of the RV but between the unit and the roof is a 14" X 14" gasket or seal. That seal is very thick, up to 4 inches, and the unit actually...

BEWARE RV Park Superguide

Posted 09-29-2012 at 02:56 PM by tasbas

FYI- I have to believe this is a scam! I subscribed at the Silver access level on 8/27/2012. The web site said there was a 30 day $$ back guarantee. We had a change of plans, and on Sept 19, I left a VM and an email to cxl my subscription. No one has returned either communication to date.(9/29/2012) I left another VM and email today AND called my CC company - Bank of America - who was USELESS! BofA informed me that they had charged me an additional 27.00 on top of the 67.00 2 yr subscription fee....
